Greetings all.

I have three devices (2x BD and what I call a "games console") going into my HD621, with the HDMI-out going to the TV, and a single SPDIF to the 818. It's worked fine for years.

Now, the screen is periodically losing the image, with the 818's relays clicking in sympathy. Every few minutes...

Help diagnosing this please?

It happens on both BD players, not just one, and swapping the cables makes no difference. So it's either the HD621 itself or the cable to the TV. Regarding the latter, the way handshaking works, if the HD621-TV connection handshakes in the middle of playing a DVD, I'm suspecting it could/would give the same symptoms, even though the connection is downstream from the HD621.

Suggestions?

If you've tried swapping over HDMI cables, then it could be the internal PSU in the HD621...

Do the lights flicker on the front when the signal drops?

They use the same PSU as the G-Series - XP Power ECM40UT31

Try turning the HD621 off for 1/2 hour and let it cool down - see if that changes anything.

Good luck,

Steve

Thanks. Your suspicion seems likely to be right.

Does installing the replacement involve soldering?

Changing the PSU involves a lot of bolts and nuts! You need to take the casework apart, remove the PSU cage assembly, and extract the PSU from the cage.
If you look at the internal pictures on Duncan's site, you'll see what I mean.

There are two connectors - one for the mains power and one for the output voltages.

There should not be any need to solder anything.

Good luck,

Steve

I had the visual symptoms, although none of the relay clicking symptoms with my previous HD621. It eventually stopped passing an image through completely, although sound was never affected.

I ended up replacing the HD621. Didn't think about the power supply, annoyingly. I hope you have luck with that path.

My old HD621 PSU died before I sold it on, I replaced it with a new XP Power ECM40UT31 as far as I remember there was no issues and was a cheap fix. No soldering required just time and a screwdriver

I'm halfway there, new PSU waiting.

Does anyone know exactly what size the bolts are holding down the cage?

My guess is 6mm, as I bought a set up to 5mm and even the largest doesn't fit...
