Curious if anyone has had their 861 periodically shut down during operation? Seems like a power supply issue, though mine is a v8 so it already has the linear supply. Have folks had issues with the linear supply?
Probably I should just send it down to Mark K's Repair shop.

It would be interesting to see if it exhibits this behavior in another room. Doing so may rule out any spurious IR from another source such as a CFL light might be causing the shutdown. I once had a failing starter in a fluorescent light fixture that would turn a music system.on and off randomly. Linear power supplies generally don't have many problems but they do fail from time to time.

IR bleed had not occurred to me - though this unit has been in its current location for well over a decade and the shut-down behavior only started about 3 months ago. 861 is probably due a health-check anyhow (did this with my 800 last year).

My 861 had a random shut down issue and it was resolved by a new power supply, put in about a year ago. Has performed perfectly since.
DSP8000USE, DSP5200HC, DSP33, DSW1500, 808v5, 861v4, WiiM Pro+, Panasonic 55" Plasma, DMP-BDT700 Blu-ray,
MECOOL MEon1, Russ Andrews Signature Power Block, UltraFuses, SuperFuses, Kimber Signature PS Interfaces.

As noted, mine already has the linear power supply, so my guess is that it is OK. I suspect that the Molex plug that connects the power supply transformer to the circuit board had gone bad. Happened back in 2021 and I fixed it myself. This time Ive decided to send the unit to the repair shop and have asked them, if it is the plug, to direct solder the wires. I also figure a general health check on the unit couldn’t hurt.

Turns out it was a bad/cracked power supply connector. Chaps at the repair shop did a direct solder so no more connector.

Great news! Glad you were able to get it sorted and get back to enjoying your 861.
Whenever I've been away from home for a week or so or have listened to other components/surround pre-pros, and then hear the 861 afterwards, it's always a great refresher and reminder of just how good it sounds and is.
