Hi All,

As per my recent post, I acquired a large number of Meridian speakers and had to use some of them for parts. I have been using my two pairs of D6000s. One pair is a "franken D6000" which uses 5500 electronics so I could make it 24.96. I was using it in my TV room but then I decided to add it to my main room so I could use 4 D6000s. What a luxury in a five point one system!.

My friend and I just simply replaced the 5500 pair that we were using as sides with the franken D6000s so everything was already set up in the G68. I used the Meridian configuration program to replace the speakers and I sent it to the G68. On the left., Rear speaker works fine but the right rear speaker would not wake up and it shows as a master (because it was the master in the family room as a two channel set-up). It would not respond to the remote when it's in standby.

One of our members suggested that the problem was in the display so I removed the display from the 5500 and I placed it just temporarily but the same problem occurs so we can rule out the display. I also reflashed the firmware with the 5.40. My question: is there a way to access the speaker and wake it up through the RS232 port?

I noticed that this franken D6000s refused to be typed, but one of them did this time. I haven't tried connecting it directly to the G68 as a mains. Perhaps that will help.

Hi Pedro,

If the speaker is not responding to remote commands, then it could be the earthing of the display that is the issue. Try grounding the copper ring (next to one of the mounting holes) to the shielding can that covers the DSP/Comms board. See if you can get into the Type menu then... You will need to set the speaker to become a slave and appropriate Left/Right.

Failing that, you can connect via serial and use the virtual remote (Meridian Control Window) to control the speaker.

Good luck,

Steve

Thank you very much Steve. I tried both to no results. Tomorrow I will try to find a new grounding spot for the display. I did keep the old style shield from the 18-bit D6 which is made out of a different material. It's not shiny like that 24/96.

My friend Wellington came by and we managed to make them work.

First, we put the 5500s in place to make sure everything was okay with the comms.

Then we replaced them with the 6000 as rears and the right rear speaker refused to be typed. We moved that speaker to the rear left and the rear left to the right rear and then the new speaker also refused to be typed.

Once it was placed on the right rear spot, we eventually performed some witchcraft but I I don't actually remember how we fixed it.

All I know is that there are some Gremlins in that right rear corner because any speaker that you put there refuses to be typed, whether it is connected with the cables or not. It's a bizarre world but thankfully everything is working now.

I ran the calibration and the room correction and it's sounding very sweet with my vinyl roon multi-channel via Eversolo as well as DVD audios and of course my Meridian 200 series 207 pro.

Hi,

Is that troublesome corner in direct sunlight? I’m wondering if the IR signal from the remote is being masked.

It might be worth changing the batteries in the MSR, in case that’s causing a weak signal.

Glad you’re up and run now.

Regards,
Carl
