And after all of that, I'm pretty sure that the 561 is faulty and sending the wrong control signals as I'm going getting sound out of one speaker, I've swapped speakers and sources to confirm its a L/R channel fault not a hardware fault (unless it's the AC12 which seems unlikely?).
I guess next step is to try RS232 control through the AC12

Hello there, I have severe difficulties to change the startup volume as well: after having tried a few thing it seams as if changing any of the speaker entries to any of the possible DSPs makes the "Volume on startup" field disapear. Interestingly reversing the corresponding speaker entry back to an analoge speaker and the "Volume on startup" field reappears. Using a DSP center I obviously have to live with a starup volume of 65 ... or does anyone have another version of the legacy programme that may work (I have the 2.215R)? Sincerely yours, Mario

I think it's more likely to be the speaker config than the 561, since there is a switch-on being sent, it would appear... In the absence of a speakerlink controller you have to do it by terminal window via the RS232 on the AC12. There's a set of options taken from the DSP 730 manual, not all of which are applicable to the 3200: Strangely none are M/S although I thought I had done that on my 3300. Try the NV blank command and see what comes back.
Configuration These commands affect only the connected loudspeaker. They configure features of the loudspeaker that would otherwise be inaccessible without a SpeakerLink capable controller.
