Hello,

I've got DSP7000 + 861v4 system and connected in to LG OLED optical output.

Does this 861 support DD (5.1/7.1) over optical in?

Hi,

The 861v4 supports Dolby Digital via optical, but you might find that the optical output from the LG is only 2 channel. If that’s the case make an optical connection from a DVD or BD player to the 861.

Greetings AntonP

I feed my 7k's directly from my 808 on DI1 and TV output from my BD Player to the 7k's on DI2 via my 861, as my TV Opt-Out does not support DD or DTS or Atmos etc. Hope you love the 7k's as much as I do!

The system is for movies/youtube only, I've got media player with optical out, but don’t want to use it in this system.

My source is Apple TV 4K gen 2 + Infuse player. Volume control with Apple remote (learned it from MSR+).

My TV is LG 83 C1, from the manual it can output 5.1 via optical out.

Yes, sound is great. I tried direct connection to DSPs, but with 861 sound is much better ))

I changed ATVs audio output to DD and got 5.1 from TVs optical.

I have another question about volume control in 861, is it inside digital domain or not?

I want to add my non Meridian subwoofers and surround speakers with MiniDSP 2x4HD over coax to optical converters.

Will I have volume control of these external devices or not?

Hi Anton,

The volume is normally controlled in the DSP speaker, so what the 861 outputs is generally fixed.

If the 861 controlled the volume in the digital domain, you would lose resolution (and bits..)

You may be able to setup some control over the RS232 but not within the digital signal.

Good luck,

Steve

Thank you, my idea to mix Meridian and non Meridian hardware in one setup is dead )) I have no analog outputs from my 861 ((

One more question.

I have DSP5200HC (not connected because I have no comms cables any more) and I want to try Trifield and/or DD with central channel.

What are variants of adding central speaker?

Can I connect it in chain with LR to get Trifield (digital from slave DSP7000 and comms the same) or is the only variant to connect 5200HC to 861 with 3/4 output coax?

The later, the PCM coax signal only supports two channels.

Whilst you can daisy chain the comms the SPDIF has to be run from the processor to each pair of DSP speakers.

Do you have a copy of the 861 and DSP user guides? If not I recommend downloading them from Duncan’s site (see link at the top of the page).

Thanks, I understand that Meridian's coax is only 2-channel, but Trifield works with 2-channels as I know. Is it function of DSP or 861 is needed?
I got user manual for v4 but it is about settings, no wiring/connections frown
Maybe there is another manual, for the installer?

Is a Meridian processor function, and covered the 861 user guide.

Not really, but check out the DSP speaker manual for examples of wiring Meridian digital theatre wiring illustrations.

Meridian's not plug a play, there is quite a steep learning curve which is not helped that Meridian manuals are well ... "not so intuitive" ... and required multiple reads before it start to sink in.
You not alone we've all been there, and there's lot's of advise here on the forum as well to help guide you.

Regards,
Carl

PS Analogue output cards for 861v4 do come up on the user market from time to time. However, there are quite hard to source these days.
