Might I suggest Googling for the multiple subwoofer White paper by Harman Kardon.
I would use 4 closed subs. What exact type depends on the listening volume.
I use 4 DIY subs based on the peerless xls10 drivers and DSP.
I will never go back to 1 or 2 subs.
