As @Crion requests - would it be possible to replace (just) the board in a 'Gen #1' UHD722 with the newer version, instead of replacing the whole Device?

Perhaps @Bruce or @Rick could answer?

Hi,

I listened to a discussion about updating the HDMI board on another processor and one of the issues was that the power requirements of the HDMI 2.1 board were higher, so updating wasn’t just a matter of swapping in a new board.

Is this something likely to be offered?

We don't know as this option has not been presented to dealers. There is a technical note that explains replacing the HDMI board to bring older UHD722 units up to the latest available Meridian spec shipping in current UHD722's.
When doing so there is actually an 8th HDMI input that stays tucked inside the UHD722 box. There are some power supply issues with other manufacturers products which can complicate swapping out a HDMI board to upgrade to HDMI 2.1.

Well that’s promising for current users and great to see that the UHD722 has the potential for an update.

I took a different route with my LG TV and HD621.
I bought a de-embedded that connects to the EARC channel on my LG TV and sucks HDMI audio from the TV and onto my HD621.

All of my UHD video devices connect to the TV. The HD devices to my HD631z

The de-embedded was around £45 from Amazon

Just wondering, what format and how many channels of audio are you getting from the Amazon de-embedder?

So if I understand that right.. you feed the HD621 with audio only on HDMI? So if you’re watching UHD via HDMI 1 (for example) HDMI 2 EARC feeds the audio into the HD621->pre

There's no point in trying to keep Meridian gear up to date with HDMI. It's always going to be behind the curve, often significantly behind the curve. The glory days of Bob S leading this from the front are long gone...
Get an HDFury device. Don't bother with a Vertex2, get a VRROOM. Plug it into your HD621. You're good for 8k, eARC, etc., etc. When the next generation of HDMI comes out, HDFURY will have a product available before Meridian have even read the press release.

2k+ for a UHD722? Nope.
You can get an HD621 for 200 quid and a VRROOM will cost 600 quid. That's pretty much what the Vertex2 cost when it was the new product. I expect it's what the VRROOM replacement will cost in Today money when the next HDMI standard gets released.

I applaud Meridians effort to update the UHD722 to newer HDMI spec. Its so much easier to connect everything to one HDMI box.
