Hi HH friends, This morning I tried to update my 5200SE to the latest firmware (3.16) but no luck. After first the connection identify recognised the speaker, I went on with the update process but then: Timeout reading from COM8. No response received in 10000 mSec After off/on, the speaker has four lights on, retried the process several times but the speaker won't update and not working anymore The problem is probably the serial to RJ45 cable - I used one like this and not an official Meridian SL to RS232 Cable can someone confirm this & if so does anybody know where I can get one? Any help / suggestions appreciated Andy ![[Linked Image from dropovercl.s3.amazonaws.com]](https://dropovercl.s3.amazonaws.com/9b7f6ae9-f35f-40a2-8c55-e8f48c33fe22/98026142-20cf-4ba8-b1d3-4ee695cf14b5/f7226765-cb69-4507-a5d6-8bef7d3f8828.jpg)

Hi,
Looks like the erase part worked fine but the firmware upload part timed out.
Try re-running the upgrade - untick the checkbox and set the upgrade running, then turn the speaker's power on.
If it still doesn't work, try lowering the baud rate (connection speed).
Good luck,
Steve

Is there a list of the latest updates available for speakers & processors etc? If so, how do we tell which update we are on?

There is an out-of-date (unmaintained) list of fimwares in the Wiki at the top of the screen.
There is also a link somewhere on the Meridian web page that gives firmware levels for newer equipment. Again, this is not fully up-to-date...
I think there was also a post where someone started to compile the latest firmware lists. It would be good if the Wiki could be updated!
Cheers,
Steve

thanks Steve, tried rerunning the update: speaker off ->start update -> when there's a popup asking to off/on the speaker I put on the speaker and the update seems to start but stops after a while...stops I not so technical but the baud rate is in the options or in the keyspan properties ? ![[Linked Image from dropovercl.s3.amazonaws.com]](https://dropovercl.s3.amazonaws.com/9cb72542-9a25-46cb-a914-39f89c44417f/404e40e5-d379-4a21-b50f-e9c68e69aeef/b09dce00-3a53-4178-a933-0584bfad2247.jpeg) @ IanP not so up to date firmware or here

I would lower the baud rate in the options to 4800 and see if that improves things.
If that does not work, then you may need to find a different USB to Serial adapter or (if possible) try a different laptop.
I am assuming that there were no issues with the speaker prior to the firmware upgrade? If there were problems, then there is a remote possibility of a fault on the comms/DSP board - but this is unlikely...
Good luck,
Steve

ok I played around with the baud rate but with very erratic results - at best I get up to 61% stored an then it stops...
The USB to serial is brand new and works with all my other M stuff - that's why I was suspecting the serial to rj45 cable
no issues before .... phhh this drives me crazy

The serial to RJ45 cable should be a generic CISCO (or equivalent) - that's what I use and it works fine. It needs to be plugged into the Master socket on the speaker.
I have an older laptop with a dedicated serial port that I use for any firmware work - I learnt my lessons with USB to Serial cables a long time ago when I 'bricked' a device.
You may need to experiment a bit with the flow control settings - try XON/XOFF and see if that is any better. Default should be 9600, N, 8, 1 - so 9600 baud, No Parity, 8 bits, with 1 stop bit. You could lower the speed to 4800 or 2400 baud - the firmware upload will take forever though and may timeout...
Sometimes, it can take a couple of attempts.
Good luck,
Steve

Thanks for all your help Steve! I tried to play around with your suggestions but no luck each time I get the timeout reading from COM8. No response received in 10000 mSec Could this cable change things? Is it possible that I bricked the speaker?

Thanks spinaltap but I don't think it's the USB to serial that is the problem rather the Serial to RJ45 ...
