bedankt Floris  saw that one ! meanwhile I got the first speaker updated don't ask me how but suddenly it worked  ( after a pause of a few hours, maybe the computer or speaker needed some time to recover ) but same problem with the other speaker I'll keep on trying

you are welcome Perhaps when not connected to power after a few hours, you have a complete cold start. (like with a computer) (transformers could hold their power for several hours as far as I know). I would say, try again after a comple of hours, then you have a complete power shutdown.. Good to hear you got one speaker updated for now..

If it's of any interest my speakers are on the latest firmware as Wiki, but my 808 is 4.4 as apposed to 3.11 on Wiki & my 861 8.1 as apposed 6.03 on Wiki.

There is an out-of-date (unmaintained) list of firmware in the Wiki at the top of the screen.
There is also a link somewhere on the Meridian web page that gives firmware levels for newer equipment. Again, this is not fully up-to-date...
I think there was also a post where someone started to compile the latest firmware lists. It would be good if the Wiki could be updated! I think this is the M web page you are talking about? I think that page has not been updated since 2016?

so this is really driving me crazy .... I got the left speaker updated, this gave me enough courage to update the right one but same problem the "store" process times out ( at completely random % ) I got another computer today but still the same problem .... I think it's the cheap serial to RJ45 cable, so does anybody knows how to get or has an official serial to speak link cable ? unfortunately I don't think writing to Meridian will result in a response..

Meridian wants you to get with a local dealer for such things and is not likely to respond. These types of user upgrade issues are exactly why Meridian wants a dealer involved. A dealer will have a tested computer and cables so that this five minute per speaker process goes without a hitch. I realize having a dealer make a service visit costs money but by now you have spent far more in time and aggravation than the service visit would cost.

You need to locate a CISCO blue cable - Should easily be obtainable from eBay or even a local IT company may have a spare.
That should sort the issue.

That looks the same as the one I use...
The only difference is that I still use an old dedicated laptop with a serial port to do any firmware updates.
I've tried a number of different USB to Serial adapters with varying degrees of success...
If you have an older PC (or laptop) with a serial port, I would give that a go.
Sorry I can't suggest anything else...

MI' who frequents this forum made me up a custom cable a few years ago. If you did want to try another cable as a sanity check, I would certainly recommend contacting him.
