I would be tempted to try and get some side subs into that room, looks like you have the space available to do so? I would certainly cable for them as a minimum.

I had actually planned to run subs down each side of the room. However this was before the new Trinnov announcement. They are due to release an update most likely early 2024. This will reduce decay times down to sub 1ms for bass which would be a game changer.

It would also level the bass within 1-2dB for every seat in the room. This Is a massive gain in performance.

For this to work you need subs on lower and upper levels and they must face each other. This system isn't designed to have side subs.

How is the build progressing? I am very jealous, another amazing space transformation in the works!

Sorry for the late reply! Been pretty busy. The build is going well. My builders have been called away to a few other things the last couple of weeks but things have been progressing.

We decoupled the floor with the HushFrame blocks. What's cool about these blocks is that they completely isolate the floor from the sub floor. What this does is allow the floor to be tactile without shaking the entire house. It is how you would build a studio. This is a part of the project that has added 96hours of additional labor 😫 however I feel that this is something that I will do once and right and so want to invest in building the room right. It shall be completely air tight in the end which I hope will make a big deference to the tightness of the audio at all frequencies. My ultimate goal is to lower the noise floor dramatically.

Every piece of horizontal wood you can see is decoupled from the main room structure. There are over 650 individual blocks installed throughout the room.

My guys have fully grasped the concept of decoupling the walls and floor and so are really geeking out on making this room the right way!

I'm currently working with my electrician tomorrow and the HVAC guy. We are spending a lot of time working out all the air flow specs and what hardware to install in the ceiling. I believe ewe are going with high end Plenum slot diffusors that will be decoupled from the stud wall structure and so not to transmit any vibrations.


A guy local to me has these subs and has them measuring down to 9Hz in his room. He's a calibrator and so knows a thing or two on how to best set them up.

The room will be double dry walled with green glue to add an additional air gap between the layers of 5/8 drywall.

A lot of work going on, it is going to be an amazing build.

Hi All,
Lots going on with the build.
We had some delays with HVAC installation and Electrician but now finally on track. I ended up decoupling the floor with Hush Frame silicone decouplers and then added another two layers of tongue and groove 3/4" sub floor. Feels super solid yet with a hint of bounce.

All the walls are also decoupled from the main structure with hush frame decouplers and have been double dry walled with green glue. All the walls are super stiff and have a super solid feel. Mudding begins tomorrow.

My electrician went a bit mad and put in 9 x 20 amp circuits and 2 x 30 amp circuits for the sub amp which will be a 6.4Kw amp pushing 3200w to each 18" JTR RS1 Sub.

We spent a lot of time planning out the AC so that we have a super low velocity output.
The goal of this room is to lower the noise floor and so used 12" piping and also insulated it. The mini split is a ducted one and located about 20ft away from the room and is a 33db output so is super quiet. We also planned in fresh air to be mixed in from outside so to keep the air circulation fresh within the room so not to have a stale room in a few months.

The room is going to be air tight and so should be pretty efficient. Should also compress the air pretty well also for those John Wick shot gun blasts 🤣

It's been a while and the theater is coming together!

Im finally watching movies and listening to movies and sounds phenomenal! All video calibration has been complete with a full 3D LUT calibration and looks pretty incredible.

Audio through the Trinnov is now dialed in and the subs have been calibrated separately with MiniDSP and running EZ BEQ files. My room / subs are measuring flat down to 4Hz 🥳

I don't have any buzzes or rattles from the room which is pretty amazing as I was super concerned about that...

Im going to add diffusion to the room next and live with the room and then close everything uo with stretch fabric to conceal all the speakers so nothing is visible. I think ill get to this around xmas time as I have the time to tinker with everything...

Anyone here using a 271, Trinnov and DSP speakers? Curious what volume level you calibrated your system to? There is NOTHING in any Meridian documentation that states what volume level should be set to hit 0.0db reference in on the Trinnov.... I have no idea why Meridian would not clearly state this as the 271 device was created for this sole purpose... Open to others help and experiences....
