Hi

I use to use a SBT (which I still have) many years ago with my M80, is there such a device that exists that will give me Roon and optical out that will make me use my M80 again?

Cheers Danny

I think the Wiim Pro is well regarded and might suit your needs. But I’m sure there are others.

You might consider adding a good 5v power supply and an iFi SPDIF iPurifier2 to the output of the WiiM Pro.

I’m wondering if the Wiim Mini will do the job. I basically want to stream Tidal and using my iPhone as a control would be great, if I can discard Roon that will be a bonus as my Tidal app is good enough for me

If Roon is optional, even better, simply follow John Darko’s advice and continue using/reinstating the SBT and spend the money instead on a decent power supply and signal clean up (as suggested above)?

Because the WiiM Pro (vs. Mini) has better processor, memory and functionality, including SPDIF input, you can use it as a preamp. I've owned both, and found the $100 price through the manufacturer's eBay store to be tremendous value. Plus, their free iOS app is very useable.

There is also the Wiim Pro Plus that runs $219.00 and has some great features.

A used Chromecast Audio. No brainer high quality audio option with Roon. It's what I use with my F80. (My WiFi is strong enough.)

Since last contributing above, I bought one second hand for about £30.00 from someone on one of the HiFi forums. I used it in my home office set up to feed into some DSP33s as I have a spare Topping DDC knocking about.

I don’t use Tidal (and am not bothered about MQA) but it does the hires Qobuz streams fine and the Radio 4 stream is also very high quality. The app is absolutely fine to use day-to-day, although it does not seem to have a very secure handshake with the Qobuz app ie if I add favourites in Qobuz they don’t quickly read across to the instance open on the Wiim app IYSWIM.

As I have noted elsewhere, I seem to have a compatibility issue with my BT home hub but I’ve been too lazy so far to read the manual or to perform some Google fu to find out if there’s a fix to what I suspect is a DHCP lease problem.

Taking VirusKiller’s recommendation, I have scored a Chromecast Audio dongle to try out and will do a bit of a shootout with the Wiim Mini when I get some time. I’ll report back.
