I don't think speaker configurations have an impact on comms. Turn on the main speaker should power up the other speakers.
You know that the centre comes on. Try just connecting just one of the other speakers (say LH) to the centre using the S5 cable. If that doesn't work use a different S5 cable. Still doesn't work swap the connection to the RH instead of the LH. Still no luck then it could be a comms out issue for the centre speaker.
The possible issues are cables and connections (problem with the comms board or connection within the speaker of the comms board).
Good luck!

Well, it was none of that... just good old fashioned stupidity on my part. I thought SL and SR in the TYPE 0 menu meant 'Slave Left' / Slave Right'. Of course not... it means SURROUND Left and Right. Entirely different. Setting to just good ol L and R with slave dots got everything working. Then moved on to integrate the 562 and now everything singing beautifully in Trifield. Which sounds awesome.
Now moved on to get it installed in place (labelling cable terminations VERY carefully) and connect the rest of my equipment. Not quite sure if the 562V I bought has a phono module fitted or not but I wasn't planning to use it anyway. Plugging my MF VYNL into one of the line level analogue pairs (VCR2) instead. Am also not at all sure about the video side of things. I guess I can use one I/O optical to connect in the Samsung flat screen and maybe the other one, for laser disk, to connect the DVD player? Failing that, I'm going to be in the world of HDMI adapters. Might even be able to bring my old VCR back into service. Also, being an early model 562, there's no digital to analogue conversion built in, as I understand it, so I just might need to call on my trusty 563.
Anyway, Happy Days!

Well, the thread continues because I'm now experiencing a subtly different set of problems in getting the speakers to talk to each other and 568/562. The most vexing issue at the moment is that the LH 5500 keeps refusing to wake up when source is selected. Rather it, insists that you take the MSR up close and select source right at the speaker. I've tried resetting Type 6, checking the Type 0 settings and also swapping out the s5 connections with the RH speaker with an alternative Meridian s5 lead, So far nothing working. When I do an Auto Configure using [Clear] from standby, all the other equipment shows Conn/NC except the Left speaker which shows nothing. Interestingly, the 568 indicates it's the Master Controller - i thought that would ideally be the DSP5000C centre speaker? I've read the 5500 and 562 manuals and can't find any actual instructions for setting Conn/NonCon status manually and individually. These aren't part of the Type 0 menu of options. I'm wondering if it's to do with orientation, that I've selected to daisy chain comms from Centre to Right, with Left on the end of the chain, whereas Meridian want the Left speaker to take comms from centre and feed out to Right. Could that be it? Or could i have bought a defective speaker? I'm getting some vicious hum sometimes when powering up LH speaker at the switch - but not always. Almost none of the sources I've plugged into the 562 is actually working at the moment, apart from CD from 500 Transport and TV sound via Toslink I/O, which is very impressive, to be fair. But really, that's a subject for a different thread.

I have run into DSP5500 speakers that refuse to be daisy chained unless one of them was the master. If you have a 511 slave patch, try it with a home run to each 5500 speaker. This requires an additional S5 cable from the Center back to the slave patch.

Thanks - that sounds like a Good Plan. I do have a 511 and so the link from Centre to patch and from there to first DSP5500 (on Right) is already in place.
I know I did set the DSP5000C as Master in the first place and it's still showing red light but it's definitely the 568 that is now displaying 'Controller' on Auto config. Fortunately, I'm not short of long S5 leads so that should be relatively easy to check out. But since the Centre and Right Speaker are already connected to 511 Patch, and the troublesome Left is just connected to Right, am I right in thinking that what I now need to do is to remove the comms output connection from Right speaker to Comms Input on Left, and substitute an additional S5 comms link from 511 to Comms Input at Left?

OK, well that's partially worked - i think. Display on LH speaker remains static when rest of system updates to change of source or coming out of standby and will only change in response to a bit of bullying by the MSR placed up close. However, audio content at LH does change in sync with rest of system, at least sometimes. Left speaker also showng a red LED, which i think denotes that it's operating as a Master? But I've rechecked the TYPE and CONFIG settings and it's definitely set to Non Conn and Slave modes. Very puzzling. I'm now going to bring back the trusty sack barrow to try physically swapping the speakers between left and right and then resetting the basic comms daisy chain to run from 568 to Centre, from Centre to 511 patch, and then from patch and 568 main speaker output to Left and then (both direct and via patch) to Right to see what happens. That should provide quite a few clues.

You need to set that left speaker to be a slave. This is done during the Type setup. Do you have the DSP speaker configuration manual?

You need to set that left speaker to be a slave. This is done during the Type setup. Do you have the DSP speaker configuration manual? Yes, thanks Bruce. Basic TYPE 6 setting (via MSR) and then scroll through options, using green Play button to toggle between Master/Slave, iirc. But i thought RH speaker was also set to Slave, since the Centre DSP5000C is the Master in the set up?

You only need one Master speaker in the system - all others should be slaves and connected via Slave cables (either via daisy-chaining the comms or by using a 511 patch)
Cheers,
Steve

Epilogue on this thread: All sorted and singing sweetly. Main learning points:
1) Yep, you do have to go Centre to Left to Right when setting up a DSP5500 and DSP5000C chain. Can't see any logical reason why you can't go Right to Left, but it appears that it don't work, and there you are.
2) Contrary to what 568V2 user manual says, you need an additional comms links from Comms Out on that RH speaker back into 511 Slave Patch. That makes slightly more sense to me.
3) Putting the speakers up on spikes makes a LOT of difference to controlling the bass. As you'd expect.
4) Sometimes things start working (sources reporting in) for no apparent reason other than you unplugged something vaguely related and then plugged it back in again. Shades of The IT Crowd.
