Greetings,
To present or previous owners of HD621.
What's the main use of the HD621 in your audio system nowadays?
Is it MCH audio for DVD-A discs and/or SACD discs?
I'm wondering, since I have an Oppo 103 universal disc player and for MCH audio out from it I have always used the multi analog outputs.
Will the HD621 save the amount of cables and perhaps add to sound quality?

Hi,
The multichannel analogue inputs involve a DA conversion from the Oppo and another AD conversion into the Meridian processor. By setting the player to output PCM on the HDMI output we save doing that conversion.
The HD621 separates the audio and video components.

I was using the Oppo with a different preamp/processor before.
I just got the G61 recently and have not hooked up yet to the Oppo.
But there's also SPDIF or even optical cable option before HDMI.
Or if I remember correctly mch SACD signal will go through HDMI, but not SPDIF or optical. I don't know about DVD-A mch though.

Hi,
The HD621 allows access to the higher resolution audio associated with Bluray discs, in contrast to the lower rate bitstream audio from DD or DTS on a single SPDIF input. Similarly, my PS3 ( not that I use it very often) outputs multichannel pcm from SACD discs.

I have a Sony 4k player has 2 HDMI outs one with video and audio the other just audio. I send the just audio to the HD621 that i picked up from eBay for a 100.00 about six months ago. Worked out great! I can now listen to the more modern codecs from blu-ray/4k discs. Dolby TrueHD, DTS master, etc. One big surprise and I don't know why but redbook CD's sound better than they ever have. The HD621 is worth it just for that improvement. These can be had for a song  these days. Highly recommended!

Yep, this is how I use mine also, for movie HD audio from Bluray into MD1

I guess it will need a bunch of cables to connect it to a G61.

Hi,
You need three Meridian Blue cables, or 3 video or component video cables will work just fine.

SPDIF times 3, so buy three 75 ohm cables with RCA connectors.

Hi,
Yes, always + the comms. In this case both have BNC sockets so a simple video BNC to BNC lead would do the job.

If you have a G65, 861v6 or v8 I'ts only one RJ45 cable if you use MMHR output. + Comms.
