It can. They have to be traced back through Meridian. If it begins with a 1 most likely it was an original version however, the DSP board and tweeter got changed if it was a field upgraded version so the serial number may not indicate the present version.
The best way to tell is when you turn it on from the back switch and it will briefly display 7200.2. Also the 7200.2 tweeter should have a M logo at the six o'clock position where the DSP7200 will have Boothroyd Stuart across the top of the tweeter.

Hi Bruce - Are you sure about the "M" on the tweeter? Carl's 7200.2 image above looks like the tweeters are stamped "BOOTHROYD STUART" across the top. Do 7200.1's display just 7200 or nothing when switched on from the rear rocker switch? Is v2.63 firmware applicable back to 7200.1's? Thanks in advance.
Cheers, Ian

In the picture Carl provides, there is a M logo at the bottom of the tweeter, faint but there. The Upgrade instructions clearly show the same. The DSP7200.2 speakers I have as rear speakers in my theater also have the M logo.
Dot one speakers only display "7200" when switched on from the back panel.
There is a 2.63 firmware file available for the 7200. Whether or not the file contents are the same as the separate 2.63 file for the 7200.2, I don't know but, where the tweeters are different, I would suspect that the files were not intended to be interchangeable between hardware versions.

Hi Ian, I can confirm that my 7200.2 tweeters have the M logo on them, the "BOOTHROYD STUART" in the image is screen printed onto the display not on the 7200.2 tweeters. As Bruce said, it was a little faint in that image, so I've taken a new photo and updated my post. Hopefully this new one has enough detail captured. Regards, Carl

Thanks Bruce and Carl. I just purchased a pair advertised as 7200.2’s and it’s evident now that they are 7200.1’s. I’ve been in contact with the seller and am waiting to see what they will propose as resolution.
I assume at this point that there are no .2 or SE upgrade kits still available. If a .2 or SE upgrade kit were able to be located somehow, any opinions on current market value? Any opinions on market value differential between .1’s and .2’s?
Cheers, Ian

This is the tweeter in my 7200.2. I would imagine that prices will be all over the place. I paid $6500.00 for these a little over a year ago. Personally, I would think that there should be about a thousand dollar difference between 7200 and 7200.2 in the US second hand market. Finding a 7200.2 upgrade kit this late after they stopped production may be a bit of a unicorn. The best chance is that there may be some 7200.2 take offs left over from an SE upgrade. Stranger things have happened. Maybe if Meridian does an XE kit for the 7200 some day, there would temporarily be some 7200.2 or SE back panels available.

I saw that one of the larger online stores that sell used equipment in the US had two pair of DSP7200 that were advertised as being .2 a few weeks ago. Not sure they were really 7200.2s, but both sets are now gone.
Agree with others that it is really unlikely that you will find a set of upgrade boards floating around. Probably better to return them.

Looks like I picked the wrong pair! They were also advertised as 7200.2. I believe it was just a genuine error on their part and they’ll make things right. Are yours graphite? The advert said black, but they looked lighter in the pictures.
Cheers, Ian
