One thing of note is that Meridian has announced that they will cease production of these in May of 2024.
The advance notice of this gives those saving for such an upgrade the time to get it sorted before the availability ends.
Those with legacy 8000's who were disappointed by the end of the SE update should take advantage. This is a very significant upgrade for 8000 owners.

Albeit that the 8000s are a premium product at a high price so, one would hope, a nice big margin, sales of only 1000 over more than 20 years seems like not very many. Bearing in mind the development costs involved it is not a business proposition I would be over excited about, but I know nothing about the choices suppliers have available to them. The business side of the audio world is a mystery to me.
However, as someone who has not been a fan of the 8000s hitherto because of their (to my ears and preference) poorly controlled bass, this upgrade looks very promising indeed. The description suggests that they have really worked hard on the bass (control boards and power supplies). My hearing only stretches to 17kHz now so 40kHz tweeters are for me more of a feel good factor than a hear good one but better bass will be an important step forward. I must get to hear the difference.

Agreed, webcam could be upgraded to todays standard. Even though mostly partners view them.
I might shift on my view that this is mainly for non-SE owners. Good comments in this video regarding what it does (helps when you can’t demo XE’s).
Tweeter dispersion is improved as well as it holds up to 40KHz. Not because we all have bat-ears but because high frequency content shape our perception of the rest of the audio spectrum in some ways a recording engineer told me.
Much Increased PSU power/quietness for mid/high and control board/DAC’s is welcome. As are all new caps ofcourse.

I know the latter are very, very good, but was interested in how close the upgrade came...
