As another intermediate cost alternative, Bluesound Node offers Tidal Connect, Roon endpoint, MQA as well as other functionality/inputs.

Does that Bluesound Node provide MQA over the SPDIF and/or USB outputs when streaming from Tidal Connect?

Can it be used to stream Tidal directly into the USB input of an 818?

The Bluesound website is less than informative

I have an ELAC Discovery Music Server – DS-S101, picked up used for a good price, that includes a lifetime limited Roon license. Perhaps this would suffice?

Gianni, sorry for delayed response. I use the coaxial SPDIF output directly to my legacy DSP’s, yes. The Bluesound Node does the first unfold of MQA to 96k in that instance. That said, the latest Node (otherwise specified as N130) also has USB output which will pass the MQA bitstream as well. SPDIF or USB, you can elect to have the Node perform first unfold or send the MQA bitstream by selecting MQA or Non MQA DAC in the setup menu. I like that it also has a subwoofer output and allows me to do basic bass management when I want to add an analogue sub.

Anyone got mconnect upnp to stream tidal mqa through a 210 to dsps and get the mqa to unfold?

Used to work but stopped working 18 months ago

If I didn’t already have a 210 with Roon; my choice today would be to add a Sonos Port to a Meridian 218 - and then use the Sonos app for streaming Tidal et al.

Seems there is 2 ethernet connection on a sonos port. Is one an ethernet out to input intoa 218? Why can't a 210 be used in this setup?

Qobuz doesn’t support MQA. But you can play up to 24-bit/48 kHz Hi-Res FLAC from Qobuz on the S2 app.

Sonos hasn’t announced any plans for TIDAL MQA support, but Sonos currently supports lossless FLAC 16-bit/44.1 kHz from a TIDAL HiFi subscription.

So sonos now does mqa? But at a max of 48khz? Not sure the sonos is up to the job

Meridian Works with Sonos - connected to to 218 via coax, with the 218 DAC taking over from Sonos Port and in providing MQA decoding.

The 210 used to decode MQA through UPnP and then something changed and Meridian are not interested in fixing. How is this situation different with the 218 and Sonos?

Sonos or Tidal change something and it stops working? Is this different?

Have you not watched the video, above?

Meridian is the UK Sonos distributor. They have a vested interest in ‘Meridian works with Sonos’.

OK. Sounds more hopeful. Will need this box then if I ever want MQA back, but will MQA unfold to a max 48khz?
