Hi

Without any warning and ok last switched on one of my rear 3200 speakers has suddenly produced a very loud constant buzz.

l have done all the obvious things swapped speakers over changed left to right etc. but buzz remains with that speaker.

All SpeakerLink connected.

Also if l switch on system in direct mode ie the 3200 though on but in standby no buzz. Buzz only when all 5 speakers are fed a signal. Buzz still continues even if l go back into Direct mode. Can only stop by going back to standby and starting up in Direct mode.

Any thoughts apart from “something” has suddenly failed!?

If they are older versions, they will need at the very least to have the capacitors replaced as the ones used in them seem to have a tendancy towards not lasting as long as those in other DSP speakers. Because of this, some repair shops keep a set of back panels in ready reserve to swap out. I have a pair of panels in for service now that happen to be serial number 100002.

Thanks for that. Capacitors are first thoughts.
Serial number of mine is D3200-20104GB which does suggest a later version. l did buy 2nd hand from a Meridian Dealer and will speak to them later today.

I bought mine second hand and the previous owner also had to return them to Meridian as they were faulty, not good considering.

Both of mine are now on way back to Meridian itself, although only one is faulty as they are concerned to the problem and wish to properly investigate.

Out of curiosity, were these units white cone or black cone?

3200’s back from Meridian,aftter a month with speakers fitted with new capacitors and all working lovely again.

The capacitors,as first thought,were the culprit, though both my local dealer and Meridian rep were surprised at the noise being produced and thought it was something more sinister!

Warranty (unlikely given second hand nature but one can hope)? Glad they could be fixed and are back working for you.

Curious whether they are white cone vs black cone on the wideband. Black cone seems to be a later revision and trying to establish where in the serial number sequence this might have occurred…

Serial number D3200 201046A.

Though not covered by warranty (Meridian only give on first purchase and these were 2nd hand), the cost was acceptable.

It’s my understanding that if registered and therefore qualified for extension of std 3 year warranty to 5 years, such warranty is transferrable.
