Get 8k.2 and when funds allow, upgrade to XE.

Get 8k.2 and when funds allow, upgrade to XE. To be pedantic, you can't upgrade from 8000.2 or SE to XE. You can purchase the "performance pack" or whatever they call it.

Correct. But still new electronics, warranty and a tweeter. Although I agree that Woofer upgrades should have been offered. Not everyone can splash out 100k for a new XE but we would be interested in paying for the woofers!

New woofers are a larger diameter and are spaced differently within the cabinet so they would not just drop in. I posted photos and explained this.

I also suspect a significant part of the performance improvement of the XE's is down to the woofers... They indicated they went out of their way to get the best drivers they could find for the XE's. I did wonder whether they could have found drivers [for the upgrade path] that fit the older chassis and provided a step-up in performance, but then how far do they go?

I would suspect that 12 woofers and two midranges added to the performance pack would have made the upgrade prohibitively expensive.
