You definitely need a few beers in a pub @Gizze. If I was up in your neck of the woods I would be up for it too.

I thought my brother might be interested in this thread (specifically GizzE's musings) so I forwarded him the link and he was indeed interested. He clearly inherited the family's intelligence.

Here are his thoughts...

Quote
That is interesting and scary stuff.

As you know, I read the Economist so maybe I am soaked in conventional economic thinking but I tend to take an optimistic (naïve?) view.

If politicians want anything, then it is to be in power. No party wants to preside over a US style depression, so I don't think there is a conspiracy here. Major economic crises tend to lead to violence and extremist parties emerge (Nazis in 1930s Germany). No party can control the outcome of events like that. You can easily imagine the break up of the EU and even the USA under a doomsday scenario. Even autocratic parties like the Chinese Communists value stability and are at risk of revolution. So parties are heavily incentivised to maintain stability. The question is, can they manage it ?

The West has a lot of debt. The concern is they will try and inflate that away so it becomes more manageable in real terms. However, national economic success is a global competition and high inflation economies do disastrously (Zimbabwe, Argentina) so that isn't an attractive route for any country, unless the whole world does it. China holds a lot of western debt and is a competitor, so I can't see them agreeing to cooperate in global inflation. China needs western economies to be stable so they can export all their stuff to us... and increase their credit. A major economic collapse is in no one's best interests.

Because inflation is so damaging, central banks were given independence from politicians, so the latter couldn't just print money. The former hadn't got everything right but I think that is more cock up than conspire.

I don't see the loss of the gold standard as a big thing. Who says how much gold is worth? If a massive gold deposit was found, would the world become poorer as the price of gold fell? The value of money is always nominal to some degree but if we all agree £1 is worth £1, then we are ok. That has been the case since we moved from gold and silver coins to paper notes and base metal coins.

I think Bitcoin is a Ponzi scheme. It has no intrinsic value but consumes vast resources (energy) just to keep going. With energy prices spiking and the push for zero emissions, I can see Bitcoin going the way of Dutch 🌷 tulips.

So I tend to believe that politicians and central banks will navigate through the problems. I am sure we are in for a rocky ride but ultimate wealth (land, houses, ability to generate value through work and trade) won't be destroyed. Aye

I agree with a lot of what he says.

Couple of things though.

The thing with gold was it meant money was pegged to it. It meant we saw natural inflation and took away the banks ability to simply print money whenever they 'need' arose.

Nothing wrong with coming off the gold standard as such, but what we moved to was open to abuse and has been abused.

I do totally disagree with Bitcoin being a Ponzi scheme, but too many who come from a finance background see it more like a stock/share/fx that they can gamble with, the price goes up they all cheer, it goes down and they Boo.
For many it is an object to make money with and hence the majority of people will see it like that.

Most who really want Bitcoin to work don't want the big ups and downs, they are not in it for making money, they are in it for putting the control of money in the hands of the people.

But it took me around 2 years or so of listening to those people to understand that. I do however, think every other cyrpto out there is a Ponzi scheme conning people off the back of Bitcoin, and I do think Bitcoin will be crushed and never have a chance to truly succeed.

Not sure I quite agree on the energy consumption thing either. But that is a whole new conversation and one that has extremely good arguments on both sides.

I do also agree that it is more cock up than anything else, the problem is many governments and elites (I hate that word) have seen the benefit of that cock up and are now desperately trying to make sure they control the money going forward.

I 100% agree that governments and central banks will navigate through this too, my concern though is whether it will benefit them or us? laugh

Why use it then? grin

It's been an interesting & unexpected topic, although definitely OT for this forum. Your tone appeared to moderate somewhat as the discussion progressed but you clearly know a lot about it & hold strong views.

Haha, because I don't think there is another word that sort of encompasses how they see themselves so well.

I think most of us use it more of a derogatory term, certainly in the context of the super rich who like to play God, but they use it between themselves as a term of endearment, which sort of says it all really.

I do hold strong views on it, but only recently. I was always of the mind of we will never change anything so no point even thinking too much about it. But it is now a real concern as their agenda for a better world really doesn't mean better for everyone, it just means better for them. It is now going to affect us all, and not in a good way.

I watched this at lunchtime, I usually watch Daniella Cambone as she has all sorts of people on into finance and the economy, bitcoiners vs gold bug vs ETF guys vs FX traders vs regular stock Joes, but more and more of her guests are talking like this and many said she needed to get Greg Mannarino on her show.
She looked a little miffed here. haha

But he absolutely nails it and even some of the most optimistic regular traders are starting to talk like this now. I think more and more people are starting to see what is happening out there.

Todays guest on Daniela's show is Mark Yusko, Morgan Creek Capital Management founder and CEO.

Another very interesting view on things. He goes into where inflation really comes from, points out you can't print 50% of the money in the system (a 250 year old system) in 24 months without knowing what it is going to do to the value of everyone's money, be that savings or earnings.
It is has been done to push the wealth divide and for ultimate control.

Quote
The renminbi is the ascendent currency, the dollar is in decline," proclaims Mark. The dollar has been the world's reserve currency for over 70 years, "but that's rapidly coming to an end," he tells our Daniela Cambone in part one of this interview. "We're in a recession right now," and the Fed has not acknowledged that, Yusko continues. "[The Fed] will start cutting rates in the fall," he predicts. Yusko concludes that China is the emerging contender to be the world's next global superpower, "and the next war will be fought with chips, not ships.

I should just add, this is a pretty new direction that her guests are taking, previously most were all watching what they were saying, running with the attitude of "It is what it is." and just talking about the markets, the economy and investments. But the tide is turning, as even the super wealthy realise they are not going to be part of the party and we are talking about a divide of the top 0.1% vs the rest of us, more and more are starting to speak up.

Interesting times ahead.

Like they all say though, don't fear what is coming, use it to get ready, use it to get yourself in a position to ride this out, if you don't ... well.

According to Knight Frank (How deep do your pockets need to be to get in you in the top 0.1% of the world's wealthiest?), much of the 0.1% are a decimal place or two away from being considered Ultra High Net Worth Individuals or super wealthy.

I think another election would see the UK plunged into economic darkness that could take us a quarter of a century to recover from. The markets are rattled at how the 6th largest economy in the world can have got things so wrong.

The problem is, the reaction to Covid, the inflation caused by the US, going along with the green agenda and as part of the G7 backing the fight to peg Russia and the BRICS nations down, is costing us big time.

To think what Truss has done has caused all this is giving her too much credit, the reality is they have decided to start kicking off the consequences of all that now, rather than kick the can down the road which could leave us all in a far worse position.
I don't necessarily think that is the right thing to do, but it has rattled a few cages and because it is going against the agreed path I think we will pay for it, well we are paying for it.

You know what? I will post what I was going to post, I saved it, just in case.

I just don't want people thinking I am some communist flag waver or something! haha

I love my country, I love the States, I actually love people and places everywhere, what I don't like is our corrupt governments who lie to us all for financial gain and power. So when I talk about the UK and America, I am talking about those in power, not the people.

I think there is a hell of a lot going on at once, all around the world.

The dollar has reached the end of its reign as the reserve currency.
The US/G7 don't like it when people say no more to being held to the dollar for all transactions, Iraq, Libya, Russia have all said they can't continue to use the dollar going forward and it always ends the same way.

Buying oil or gas and paying on a 10, 20 or 30 year future is fair enough, but when the US gets the printing machine out constantly, the $1trn of energy sold for today is only worth half that by the time they are paid as they have devalued the money. It is theft and it is control. Plain and simple.
So I can see why they all want to get away from the dollar.

The US has had a good run, pretty much when we would expect it to be handed over, but boy do they want to hold onto it.

[Linked Image from pbs.twimg.com]

So dollar is being artificially made to look strong, but at the expense of crippling the rest of the world. The USA doing what it does, and we, the UK and the other G7 nations back them in yet another invasion. A lot of my US friends are now starting to question what has happened over the last few years.

7 countries and 5 years. Search for that on YouTube to get an idea. Being the reserve currency, if the US wants high inflation, it means inflation for everyone around the world, that is a lot of control.

We have pension funds in an absolute mess, US funds alone are currently $20 trillion short, the Ponzi scheme has reached breaking point.
The UKs own public pension pot is shagged as well as so many private schemes, probably get a good idea how bad by tomorrow, or Monday.
Same with Germany and most EU countries.

We have youngsters paying into pensions that we know full well will never materialise just to keep paying the pensions today, pensions that have no money left in them. That is theft.

The problem is, the whole of the western, and some other parts, of the world have racked the credit cards up and they have just found out they can't get another one from anyone else to pay the existing card bills off with.

We need, I say we, I mean "they need" to collapse the economy now, they need hyper inflation, they need to have something to blame the debt on. Covid, Monkeypox, Climate Crisis, energy crisis, food shortages, supply chain issues, another war are all great ways to explain why all the money has gone, we are all going to have to suffer going forward for the greater good. We will all be poorer, but what choice did we have?
Again that all word! Anytime you hear "we will all" just change it in your head to "you will all" and it starts to make more sense.

I think Nord Stream will come back and bite the US big time. You can't talk about ending Nord Stream no matter what, in public, time and time again, and then not expect people to start to asking questions about what this is all really about. It has woken a lot of people up.

The Ukraine was one of the biggest issues for the US, it was going to link Russia to the EU in ways we had never seen before, this would have been an absolute disaster for the US, it was allowing Russia to supply gas to the EU bypassing Ukraine, and therefore bypassing the dollar.

Many have been waiting for this war to kick off for the last 8 years or so, the only surprise was that it happened as Putin had been quite clear that they voted to leave and so there was nothing he could do. What has happened in those regions of Ukraine over the last 8 years are horrific, people really need to look into this. They have been crying for help for 8 years now from Putin. Ukraine/NATO, moved troops to the Russian border first, backed by US, and to some extent UK, money and weapons. Putin even joked that “the western media will fall silent at this act of provocation, but when I match them on my side, to protect my country tomorrow, they will shout out to the world how Russia is being aggressive.” He was right. This video is well worth revisiting, from 2014.

Luckily we do have a lot of people kicking back against everything at the moment, but I think our biggest hurdle is the general public. The problem is, unlike those in charge, the billionaires, the megalomaniacs of this world, 99% of the world are good people, they want to believe that what THEIR media is telling them is true, that we do these horrific things because we are the good guys, that all the lockdowns, the new laws clamping down on free speech, throwing billions and billions at this weeks disaster, allowing millions to die because they can't afford energy or food, is because we must sacrifice ourselves for the greater good.

The issue is we have seen this happen time and time before throughout history, and every single time it ends up with what we look back on as the most horrific events the world has ever seen. But we must not forget that the public cheered on these horrific events and it was only when they ended did they look back in horror.

We now have the world ruled by ESG ratings, complete corruption, and as companies, countries are starting to turn their back on ESG ratings they are stating to push Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are even more laughable.

This is a great chat about SDGs with Marty Bent and Whitney Webb. They absolutely nail what is happening right now and what has been happening over the last few years.

https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/tftc-a-bitcoin-podcast/id1292381204?i=1000579682837

Please don't get me wrong, I am no fan of Putin, but I will not cheer on Zelensky calling for pre-emptive nuclear strikes on Russia, he is a liability that could see us all in WW3, and a nuclear war at that, and no one in Europe or the States will be safe, he needs to be reigned in. He has a big hold over the US and is throwing his weight around a bit too much. He is starting to loose quite a lot of support in many circles.

Well worth watching Putin' press conferences, what we are hearing is far, far from what is actually being said and happening.

So for me, I think the inevitable is a crash of the monetary system, hyper inflation, universal basic income, social credit scores, digital central bank currencies, carbon credit system (which will be the big wake up call for many) and a world where the rich poor divide is like we have not seen for a very long time.

Many people say, if they want to reduce the population it makes no sense, the more people the more money surely? The carbon credits they want to bring in gets round that. People think the new world is a world where you can do anything if it is not green. Well no, you can do whatever the hell you want, as long as you can afford it. This is where the carbon credits come in, everyone will have a certain amount of credits each year, you can use them to travel, by fuel, heat your home, or whatever you want to use them for, as long as you are rich enough of course. You can buy more, and you can sell them back into the system, this will of course see a very different lifestyle for the super rich vs ... wel ... everyone else. The wealth divide, the two tier society will once again get wider and wider. This explains it well ...

Let's not even get into the take over of the farming industry, this has been in the planning for years and trialled with Sri Lanka, then Netherlands and then ... etc. They are putting farmers out of business and then buying up their land.

When they have your food and your energy they have everything.

I think people need to start questioning everything. Some who have been calling this out as conspiracy theories are now shouting the loudest for people to start waking up. We are passed the point where we can blame everything happening on deluded ideas or incompetence, it is extremely well crafted and has been in the planning for many, many years.

Funnily enough these two videos popped up on my youtube 'new uploads' list this morning.

This will be the world's new reserve currency, and probably end the U.S. dollar forever.

And then this....

The insane globalists at the World Economic Forum are pushing Germany and the rest of Europe into catastrophe. Germany just turned down cheap natural gas from Vladimir Putin with the fixing of the Nord Stream pipeline. But of course, because it's all part of the plan. One CEO of one of the biggest banks in the world has a message for Klaus Schwab, "you're sending Europe into the dark ages."

Both of these channels are worth a watch. It is good to see people like this change their viewpoint as more and more information comes out.
I like following people who have the ability to change their opinion and say "We were wrong." and even more when they take that as a lesson and start to do some real digging and then say "Not only where we wrong, but hey, you need to listen up ..."

Thank you for posting.

I have been back to 13th January 1964 but nothing has hardly changed, I was 17 and my pride and joy were a Leak Stereo 30 amp and a Goldring GL75 turntable plus Wharfdale Linton speakers.

Your post made me go back to Bob Dylan "The Times They Are A Changing". Nostalgia is not what it was, we had hope on our side then.

Much improved audibly though in MQA.192k.

The Greenback is now even more the Greedback.

Keep posting, very interesting.
