Something I don't understand...
Dolby TrueHD is basically MLP, which was used on DVD-Audio.
861/G6x accept MLP with the good DVD player on MHR connection.
But why Meridian erase the MLP compatibility in HDMI?
With this, all processors would have been compatible with Dolby TrueTD without modification...

My guess is it all comes down to licensing and HDCP.
Fortunately there are no changes to the audio quality when converted to PCM by the player. Since there would be no upside to carry TRUEHD instead of PCM I imagine Meridian decided to stick with the open source standard instead.
Plus converted DTS and SACD formats could be used as well.

It’s totally to keep down the box count on which license fees are paid.

With this, all processors would have been compatible with Dolby TrueTD without modification... HD621 and UHD722 do accept the (unpacked) Dolby True HD as multi-channel high resolution PCM. This is passed onto the Meridian Surround Processors over the MMHR connection in precisely the same way as a Meridian DVD player passed Multichannel DVD-Audio to a Meridian Processor. In that case the DVD Player unpacked the MLP, with HD621 / UHD722 the Blu-ray player unpacks. The unpacking process is lossless and straightforward so no need to be done in the HD621, most Blu-ray players can be set to unpack. Rick

I see a beautiful MLP logo on 861. If a Meridian DVD player could decode MLP inside to send in MHHR, why doesn't M add the function in an HD621? Dolby TrueHD is MLP... For licence fees, HD621 was £1500. Any Blu-ray player at £150 have Dolby and DTS HD decoder and licence...

Wikipedia suggests that “the two formats’ respective implementations of MLP are not mutually compatible”

Hi Domin,
Is there a particular issue you're trying to address?
Why not simply get a Blu-ray player to unpack the Dolby Tru-HD or DTS-Master?

Hi Rick, My combo is complete with Blu-ray player, Blu-ray 4K UHD player and Apple TV ! And because Trinnov is too expensive for me, I had Dirac on PCM signal before my HD621 (Minidsp NanoAVR with Dirac Live). But I don't understand why Meridian choose a no HD audio way while they had all knowledge and means with the HD621... Put 2 stickers in front of HD621, with Dolby TrueHD and Dts HD MA, and they would have made a lot more sales.

Hi Domin, We all feel your frustration but unfortunately it is what it is! I looked up Crion's suggestion of the Infuse Pro and a Lifetime membership is only US$75. Sounds like a smart solution for you assuming you have a 4K Apple TV. You have learned a lot in your short time with us in this Forum. Imagine what a lot of us have endured with Meridian for more than 2 decades? You have been lucky. My hair's gone grey. Cheers, Steve M

You do get HD audio through an HD621, it's just the Blu-ray player unpacks, rather than the HD621. I can't see the point of Meridian paying two licence fees, for two 'stickers' meaning that the HD621 would cost more, (potentially losing sales) when it's not needed? Regards, Rick
