A blue (studio) or green (non-studio) MQA light should mean unambiguously that the MQA stream has been authenticated with cryptographic certainty; it is impossible for this to take place on a decoded MQA stream.
It just occurred to me that, if the decoder and renderer are linked by a suitable encryption system (i.e. like an 818v3 and SE loudspeakers), then the decoder can communicate the MQA status to the renderer.
However, if this were the case, I would expect, in a 210 -> 218 scenario, that both devices show the same colour. That they do not suggests to me that the 218 hardware can't do a magenta light.
