So, an overall worthwhile retention of existing excellent technology and introduction of a couple of very sensible though not especially advanced additional features, But current owners presumably are not M's target.

This isn't a re-launch, its a completely new speaker, which admittedly does look a lot like the old one. (Porsche 911 springs to Mind)
It uses the tried and tested technologies, renamed to make them more understandable than before, but newly engineered from scratch to offer better performance.
New drivers, new electronics (both boards and designs), new cabinets, new grilles, all to push performance further.

Certainly current Meridian owners after the very best performance will be interested.

Hi Rick,

will these replace the DSP8000SEs or be sold along side them?

Indeed. But pre-production is many months ahead of that and dealers and journos often get to see these. This is the result of 6 years dev work.

I am curious for some real listener feedback. All the marketing and promo is interesting.

Fair point.

I wonder if any forum members have mentally bought themselves a pair yet. I think it would be surprising, given the R&D and accompanying expertise, if there wasn't a significant uplift over the SEs.

Not sure if this has already been commented upon but I've just been on M's website & I see that the 8kSE is no longer listed. I was surprised to see that the 7200.2 and 5200.2 are still current models, although not the 8000.2. If you want some 8ks it has to be XE!

The Meridian Product Range 2021 Brochure is still available on their website and everything is still there but obviously doesn't include the DSP8000 XE's.

Meridian Product Range 2021 Brochure

I bet we can't buy the black speaker feet as a part, that are new on the DSP8000 XE's. They would be my preference over the shiny feet on a black gloss DSP8000 variant.

Not yet, but I'll be hot-footing it to Meridian as soon as they have some available for me to experience.

Slightly tongue in cheek, I’m guessing they still haven’t worked out how important a mains cable is…
