First sentence on DSP8000XE presentation page says: "DSP8000 XE is the first product to emerge from Meridian’s groundbreaking Extreme Engineering Programme;..." The DSP8000XE being the first, I wonder, what other XE versions they are preparing? The preliminary specs on the DSP8000XE digital inputs give the maximum resolution for any but the SpeakerLink input. Same for the SpeakerLink output, no resolution. Hmmm... do they finally shift the 96kHz/24bit limit to the right? This would imply something like a 818XE as adequate source, wouldn´t it? Speculation time it is...

Fair point.
I wonder if any forum members have mentally bought themselves a pair yet. I think it would be surprising, given the R&D and accompanying expertise, if there wasn't a significant uplift over the SEs. I have, but fortunately, I have zero way of paying for them, and shipping to Africa (and SE's back) would only add to the costs/woes...

I’m excited to see Meridian releasing new speakers. To enable existing and potential Meridian owners have more confidence in the future of Meridian I wish they would release a roadmap. Even if they just said new products are in development it would be progress!

I was looking at the 8000SEs and could still order them, so long as I place my order before the end of the year. However, I am not going to do that before I have heard the XEs. If there is not a massive difference I will probably look at a second hand pair. The other big worry is that I am also looking at getting an 861v8 but again looking at the spec of the XE it seems likely that there may be other new supporting kit imminent. It's a bit of a mess and so a clear roadmap would give me some confidence to go forward with the brand. Because of the uncertainty I am seriously considering doing more research with other brands.

I can’t disagree that you have to listen and decide. But given most people recognise a distinct lack of M products in the last few years, I don’t find the possibility of new boxes is a big worry.
Also, I have no idea how they sound but a post above suggest the sort-of-XE performance pack is likely to be similar to SE. But XE might be better.
If you have older spec 8k it could be an awesome upgrade.
FWiw I think the 8kSE (in my case Anniversary edition) are simply stunning. I think it would be quite a feat to achieve a big increase in SQ but I remain open to the possibility.

Does anyone now how the IA21 Analogue Input Module works?
It would be nice if it could be an option for all DSP speakers with SpeakerLink. It would greatly solve having to manually set the volume level to 87 when using an other source with volume control.
Would also be great if when it receives an SpeakerLink source it could be set to an defined volume level say 50 and then when a analog input is selected it would go to 87. When switched back the volume would first be set back to 50 and the line in would be activated.

These docs say that The DSP8000XE stands on triangulated, adjustable, machined foot assemblies with provision for floor spikes or skids. Designed to acoustically isolate the cabinet from any unwanted resonances from the floor, the feet are a vital element in the overall cabinet design. The spec sheets go on to describe a metal plate at the bottom of the cabinet, for added stability, to which the feet are attached. I wonder how this design compares to using third party products, such as Gaia, that many of us have added to SE? Looks like somebody is paying attention. Will the included power cords be anything more than off-the-shelf 18 gauge? Hope not. It’s ridiculous that M advised us not to worry about decent power for active speakers all of these years…

IA21 ANALOGUE INPUT MODULE
Supplied with each DSP8000 XE loudspeaker, the analogue input module allows the loudspeakers to be used in non-Meridian systems. The module mounts to the underside of the loudspeaker and is connected using a single SpeakerLink cable (also supplied).
Once installed, the module causes the loudspeaker to automatically configure itself ready for use in this way. The module accepts a variable line-level analogue input in either balanced (XLR) or single-ended (RCA phono) form.
The three-way input sensitivity switch allows a wide-range of third-party pre-amplifiers as well as other sources with a variable output to be used.
A signal-sense detect system automatically activates the loudspeaker when it receives audio and switches it to standby if no audio is played for approximately 20 minutes. Alternatively, the trigger connection (3.5mm minijack) can be used to remotely switch between On and Standby mode from a suitable device, or the loudspeaker can be set to remain on whenever it is powered.
