I've been around these parts long enough to have seen some very active HHers exit stage left one day, seemingly never to return.

Fiddler famously came then went then came back then went again, Ronnie was very active a few years ago but hasn't been seen for a long time & more recently Ludwig, Ratbert & Ian all seem to have left for pastures new.

Ratbert was a really valued member of the forum & gave his time to me (& many others) on several occasions and without him I'd still be spinning CDs. I know that Ratbert sold all of his Meridian kit & I suppose that's a likely explanation for some of the others.

Can anybody shed any light?

Hi,

People's priorities, interests and position in life moves on.

Ludwig, Ratbert and Ian are all fine, I've spoken with, messaged or otherwise had an update recently.

Ronnie, I've had no contact with for long time, his last posts were way back in early 2017.

Regards,
Carl

It is life. Things change.

The internet has changed in the last 20 years (it was once new and cool to use is now so ubiquitous we have to find leisure time else where?)
Forums have changed (no they haven’t, yes they have, black is white, you cannot have that experience without it agreeing with mine, armchair experts and keyboard warriors….tiresome)
Companies change
Our hobbies change
Priorities change

Without really much consumer oriented new products for the last 5+ years there isn’t really much to drive new discussion. So people will find discussion elsewhere.

It may all change again.

Rgds,
Nick

I think Carl and ncpl are right.

Although I’m not up to the level of interaction (or knowledge) of some members I have found myself dropping in to look and keep updated but not always logged on. Perhaps a lot of less active members do this as well?

Regards
David

Still alive, me.

Having got to 818v3 and 8kSE, and not wanting to go multichannel right now, I don’t have much ambition regarding Meridian. I’m not yet excited by the 8kXE and anyway can’t afford it. There are some things they could do which would interest me but I am not holding my breath. I certainly wish them well though, and want them to stay in business!

Regarding Hi-Fi I am listening a lot through headphones these days, meaning I am a little bit on relevant forums. I have a pair of Stax X9K on order and currently run 404LE and Audeze LCD-X. Amps by Mjölnir Audio, out of dCS Rossini DAC/Clock and/or 818v3 analogue out. I am also doing a lot of restoring of old tapes (not just mine) using a Merging Anubis audio interface. Awesome little thing, which caused me to get the Audezes for direct use.

Bigger picture, I have four kids, a full time professorship and a career as a musician. I don’t have much time any more…

There are some great folk here and I hope one day to manage another curry with the relevant parties.

That's a nice update Ludwig; thanks.

I too have been an erratic visitor to these parts over the last couple of years as we've found ourselves in COVID lockdown away from our home country, twice, for months each time. So that was *unexpected* plus I've struggled to log onto HH from my phone so it effectively silenced me (cue enthusiastic cheering). We've recently bought a new home in Italy but it requires a lot of work so we'll be in temporary accommodation for the next X months (X being an indefinite number).

I totally understand that people's priorities in life change over time and although it might be something of a shame to lose an old, valued member of the forum, we've had some great new people join us recently; a sign of a healthy community.
