My F80 has gone from functioning beautifully to being as dead as a dodo, all in a morning.

Checked fuse in power plug. Ok.

Cannot find any Meridian fuse. Is there one?

Assuming the worst, any recommended repairers around the Southampton region?

Probably not an option as unit not working, but has anyone tried the Russ Andrews PSU upgrade?

Thanks

William

Hi,

Over the summer, I’ve had my pair of M80’s at Mr TechGuy for replacement displays. In both cases Russ replaced the internal fuse in both units. The fuse is internal and requires a strip down to get to it.

Hi

l had a “fuse” problem with F80 which was on the board of same. It went back to Meridian 3 times and eventually it was agreed by Des that there was a problem and the “fuse” rating was increased. My F80 was going down alongside a power cut.Since the “fuse“ upgrade some years ago 😀👍

Regards
Colin

Interesting re power cut. Since my post, I have deduced there was indeed a power outage this morning.

Hi,

Yes seems to be the case then. The “fuse” is on the board but outside of my skills.
l used to sell Meridian so did have the “ear of Des and in meantime it had been identified as a problem. Try Mr Tech Guy though they do often respond to forums if something they can deal with.

Regards,
Colin

Hi Colin,

Can you please share the rating of the original fuse and the rating of the replacement fuse?

Thanks,
John

Hi John

The “fuse” is not what we usually regard as a fuse but rather a “component “ similar to say a resistor on the board.

My F80 went back 3 times via a Meridian dealer. The first time l paid for around £100, after that no charge and on 3rd time it was accepted by Meridian to improve the rating of the “fuse”!

Suggest you email Tech Guy to see if he can help.

Regards

Colin

Hi WilliamS,

It might be worth contacting Steve Perry (swpnt) of this parish and see if he can help.

Cheers

Jon

I think that fuse is purely for the feed to the iPod dock. Clearly, that must have been giving problems too. I had to have the main internal fuse replaced (under guarantee - it was 10 years ago!) which is an internal, circuit board mounted and directly soldered, mains fuse protecting the main unit (mine is an AD88 but the circuitry is the same as the F80). It looks like a small terracotta coloured cylinder with the rating on its cylindrical surface and the two connecting wires protruding from its bottom surface. As has been remarked, they changed the rating and my unit is always in standby or powered on and it has lasted 10 years so far - though I have no need to play the unit at high volumes.
