Well, this is a puzzle. All of the front buttons on my 561 have suddenly stopped working. The remote still works.
I've powered it off a few times, and reset it via the RS232 connection a couple of times. No joy. Anybody else experienced this?

Have you tried ensuring that it is the controller?
Try pressing CLEAR on the remote with everything in standby.
If that does not work, try covering the remote eye sensor on the front panel in case something else is interfering with the unit.
Let us know how you get on.
Cheers,
Steve

I have the same issue with a 561; it has started to work again, then gone away again, it's in a working cycle at the moment... If I recall correctly, it's an issue with the 561, see this 561 Front panel buttons not working topic.

Thanks both. Clear didn't work, sadly.
Do you know where I can get firmware 1.77 from? If I can find it I'll try flashing it, see if that wakes it up.
It's very odd. Everything works fine from the remote, but the buttons are completely non functional. Everything was working as expected up until this. I guess it could be a hardware problem with the button circuitry.

Well I now have 1.77 on it. The buttons still don't work but it was worth a try...

Don't let anyone tell you violence doesn't work!
A single sharp rap on the front panel, with an open hand, on the flat bit of the fascia just to the left of the buttons, and it's working again!
I'm guessing a loose connection somewhere. When I get a spare hour I'll open it up and have a look, but for now all seems back to normal.
Thanks both Steves for your input.

As an owner of a 561 that doesn't have this problem (yet), it's nice to know that I can fix my Meridian gear by beating on it!

I remember there being some settings to lock the front panel. I saw this in the manual. Don't know if this will help or not.

None of the buttons were working, including the ones used to lock and unlock the front panel. I suspect a loose connection or sticky relay. I'll open it up if it happens again.

Greetings, I had a similar problem when I got sent my 561 about 2 years ago from its former owner = the front panel was out of order entirely (display and buttons). I opened the lid and found the cable disconnected from the backside of the panel. Plugging it in did the trick but as well revealed that the plug-socket-connection is very tight when done right. The only explanation I have is that someone did not connect it properly before, may be even when assembed at Meridian. I suggest you open the lid and check (if I recall correctly, you take off its 2 or 3 screws on the back, lift it a very little bit and then pull it backwards a bit and then lift it completely). Yours, Mario
