I’ve just asked for clarification on their recommendation for DSP5000, which are 32Kg. The automatic configuration recommended Gaia II despite Gaia III supposedly being good for speakers up to 33Kg.

Have you considered IsoAcoustics ISO-pucks? They are the professional version of their hifi isolation supports and are covered by the same patent as the Orea and Gaia isolation supports. Each Iso-puck will support 20 lb so four will easily handle a DSP5200SE and they cost £44 per pair! The downside is that the speaker just sits on them, but the do 'stick' to the speaker base by suction, and they are not as blingy as Gaias or Oreas.

I have them under my 808v6 and the improvement in SQ is fantastic, I also use the mini pucks under my TT with similar improvement in SQ. Unfortunately, as I'm on a carpeted floor, I can't use them on my 5200SEs, but I'm working on it.

You can find out more about the Iso-puck here.

Hi,

I was curious about your use of the puck rather than the Orea models, so found this on the Isoacoustics website:
Quote
The ISO-PUCK was originally designed for the pro audio and Musical Instrument (MI) channel, and used with studio monitors, guitar/bass amps, DJ turntables, etc. The OREA, on the other hand, is designed for home audio.

The performance curve for the OREA models are narrower in weight range and will provide a slightly stronger sonic benefit in its range than the ISO-PUCKs.

The more effective isolation results in more sound clarity and focus.
It made me wonder if anyone has compared an Orea and a comparable sized 'puck' but I can see the merits of using the Orea.

I had considered these, but can’t see any comparative data regarding performance. In the absence of this, I suppose we have to take Iso Acoustics word that the more expensive solutions are better and not just blingier!

In fact, I’m only considering these for the sake of the neighbours downstairs, so I can play without disturbing them too much, so cheaper would definitely be preferable, if the isolation from structure-borne noise were as good.

During my research, I came a cross quite a few reviews on various forums where the Oreas and pucks had been compared and the overall conclusion was that there was little or no difference between them. It was the fact that all the supports were covered by the same patent that swayed me in favour of the pucks (as well as the price difference!). Once I had tried them I was totally convinced, and they were far superior to the Vibrapods that were being used.

The graphs for the Oreas show that they work at their best over most of their weight range, so as long as you use the pucks within their weight range you should get the same benefits as the Oreas or Gaias, as they all work on the same principle.

Just a thought.

Thanks for the extra info.

I had another look at these in the meantime and concluded that I’m going to try some isopucks, since my speakers are comfortably in the weight range for 4x standard ones.

Hi,

Yes, thanks for that clarification _ I might try some mini pucks on some secondary devices.

With DSP5200SE I'm interested in trying the Gaias, although much prefer the prospect of the cost of the Gaia IIIs, so I weighed the DSP5200SE and their packaging just to check.

32kg each is *packed* in their cartons. IIRC the cartons weighed 5kg each, so net weight around 27kg each.

So when selecting model, stay within 90% of the weight limit for best results. At least this is how I interpret their recommendation.
We also have to account for some speakers only using 3 rather than 4, so need to subtract that from the weight limit as well.

Example:
DSP80000SE, 105kg
Gaia Theis 3 units within 90% of weight range. 145kg -25%, -10% = 97,88kg
Gaia Rhea 3 units within 90% of weight range. 190kg -25%, -10% = 128kg

Proper Gaia Titan version for DSP8000SE is then Gaia Rhea.

DSP7200SE, 55kg
Gaia I 3 units within 90% of weight range. 100kg -25%, -10% =67,5kg
Gaia II 3 units within 90% of weight range. 55kg -25%, -10% = 37,1kg

Proper Gaia version for DSP7200SE is then Gaia I.

DSP8000SE, DSP7200SEHC, DSP5200SE sides, DSP7200SE rears, 861v8, 210, Sim2 Ultranero 4, Stewart Cinecurve 2.35:1, XEIT CM-5E Anamorphic lens, Dune HD Duo Cinema 8K and Wireworld Platinum 48G HDMI -> UHD722 -> Shunyata Omega Ethernet. Shunyata/Furutech power-cables/filters. SR Master Fuse@861v8. Uptone Etherregen with 10MHz OCXO clock.

Very interesting and very useful so thanks for this. I am curious though as to what the weight limit is on each individual foot if the packaging mentions this which I assume it would.

Kind of moot for the UK though as nobody seems to be selling them in anything other than sets of 4. It seems few phone calls are in order...

My latest dealer price list offers singles. I would assume the same would apply to the UK. It wouldn't hurt to ask the dealers over there.
