Sorry I don't understand the announcement. You have always been able to connect a Sonos box into a Meridian system and have the M system as a Sonos zone. What's different here? The difference (improvement) here is that the Meridian system will automatically select the correct input for the Sonos, when the Sonos zone starts playing. Also the Volume control in the Sonos app will control the Meridian volume. No need to use the Meridian Control App at all in day to day operation. Simply use the Sonos App. Rick

In other words, it would work like Sooloos and Roon. No need to connect a Sonos device via SPDIF to a Meridian controller. Sounds like Sonos can discover certain Meridian controllers via the network. No, this doesn't stream directly to a 218 / 251. Sonos can't detect Meridian devices on the network as playback zones for audio. You still need a Sonos port connected to the Meridian by coaxial digital ideally. This is all about simplifying the Control of the system by using a Sonos App. Rick

Ok, this announcement seems to indicate streaming directly to say an 218 or 251. No, You still need a Sonos Port (Or Connect, A Sonos 'endpoint' which has coaxial, optical or fixed analogue out) to do the streaming. Rick

Do the Meridian products need to have software updates to allow them to 'Work with Sonos'?

Hi Rick,
Can you point to more information how to set this up? I have a Sonos Port connected by coaxial to a 218, Software version 1.1, build 218.
What now? I don’t find any setup options in the Sonos or Meridian control app...
Thanks!

It is set up in the 'Works with Sonos' section of the 218 Configuration. The 218 Configuration is a web interface, browse to the IP of the 218 from a PC, or use the Configuration link in the Meridian Connect App.
You will need latest 218 firmware to get this 'Works with Sonos' setting in the Configuration, I will email you to discuss updating 218 firmware.

Obviously there are those folk who are already aware of this but following the DSP8000XE announcement on the Meridian site, I saw this 2021 announcement in the News section “Works with SONOS”, which I was totally unaware of until now. I started Google searches for more info and found Meridian Works with SONOS Certification , a 10 month old article that was in What Hi-Fi. After doing the internet search and realising this was all taking place back in Nov/Dec 2020, I thought I had better search the Forum for an existing thread rather than creating a new thread. Hence I am letting other people know who missed this original thread like me. Having SONOS Connect Get 2 is pretty handy, as it means other streaming services can be put through the my Meridian system and played elsewhere on SONOS speakers and all controlled via the Sonos S2 App. I also found Meridian Works with SONOS Video that has a very informative video to watch. You need to scroll down to see the video; The 218 & 251 are online already and the 818 is supposed to be compatible and the 861 along with the UltraDAC are meant to made compatible. Cheers, Steve M

Have there been updates to this? Are the 818 and 861 compatible with a software update or is that still in the works?

218, 251, and 818 will all integrate with Sonos Port.
