I have the choice between COMx (COM3 for me) and USB1.
But the two is for the same cable USB/RS232 and the two options work fine

Have a look at this, it may help. I think your cable uses the FTDI Chip.

Yes, it does. It says so both on the packaging and the driver CD.

Status report:

* Trying to connect USB - USB didn't work, Windows didn't recognize the G68. Perhaps installing a driver or something would fix that problem.

* Discovering the mentioned Options allowed to change from USB1 to COM3. That in itself didn't help.

* Tried lowering transmission speed to 2400. Still no go.

* Raising the speed to 4800 - and connection established!


Now that I know I can get config changes stored I will go through and change the last details, for instance the new TV has no analogue sound out but a toslink instead. The cable I had lying in "storage" is too short so if I don't have another one lying I'' need to buy one (nice if just watching a TV program and want better sound than the built-in speakers even though that model is unusually good for a TV). I also will check the BD player manual, I believe I remember it's "smart" so that one of the two HDMI outputs is soundless so you connect that to the TV and the other to the HD621 and you don't need to turn off the sound of the TV when watching a BD.



BTW, is there a problem having the cable connected to the maintenance RS-232 port all the time? It's a bit of a hassle getting at the back of the system.

No, HDMI port 2 is Audio only, that should be connected to the HD621 and HDMI 1 to the TV (or HDMI 1 to HD621 and from that to the TV, but then I would need a UHD722 not to degrade the picture resolution of 4k discs...)

I wonder what the up side of an audio only HDMI connection is? I think my idea of a video-only HDMI was sound...

The benefit of the Audio only HDMI is that you can use that for output for audio from UHD 4k sources through the HD621 (and other audio processors) that do not support 4k sources.

This means that you can upgrade the video side of things without having to replace existing non 4k audio equipment - a major benefit for those that have existing HD621 devices.

Yes, I got to understand that after a while - you also don't need a more expensive HDMI cable that can handle 4k video to the HD621.
