Robert, The Meridian Device Manager automatically updates the F/W without user intervention. Just run it and wait a minute. If a firmware update is available, it will take place. If there are multiple devices to be updated, it will take slightly longer because the update process will be sequential, not concurrent.

I can't help with the IP address. Many seem to have found static IPs troublesome, and I'd only change from DCHP for a very compelling reason (which you may well have). But 10.0.0.6 seems a little unusual (to me). Every router I've owned would want something like 192.168.1.XXX. Someone gifted in the Networking department will undoubtedly shed light here.
While I can't say in good conscience that I've never had a network problem affecting my M gear, I can't recall a single one not easily rectified with an end-to-end reboot from the modem to the end-points, including the Wi-Fi mesh nodes.
