I have a G61R, 210, HD621 and Chromecast Ultra.

How would I best stream mkv files from my PC? I tried to "cast" from PC to the 210 and that semi worked to my surprise smile

It seems the Chromecast doesn't support mkv.

What other devices are you using?

I'm mostly interested in getting the audio to the G61R,

In my system, there are two options. One for films and one for casual TV watching.

For films, I have a PC connected to my HD621 and my TV.

For casual TV shows, my smart TV is connected to my NAS, and the optical out from the TV is connected to my 861.

Thanks Bee, there are many options it seems depending on what parts you have and where you want to go.
I see people use PCs, NUCs and also Dune-HD Solo or similar as end points.
Not sure I want a PC or NUC, maybe the Dune-HD will fit my need, not sure how many multichannel videos or audio files I'll play, nowadays it's more streaming.
But at some point I will need to go 4k and maybe even support the new surround audio formats.

I just don't get it why Meridian has nothing for that while a slew of smaller companies do. No updated HD722 and no new surround processor. It's annoying.

I use a second hand Lenovo M93P Tiny connected to my HD621, controlled by a Logitech K400 Plus Keyboard/mouse combo, for most of my streaming. The PC is in sleep mode so I can wake it with the keyboard without having to touch the system unit.
It all works well other than the irritation of multiple controllers and having to start everything in the right order (apparently) to get the handshaking to work properly sometimes.

You might want to check out JRiver Media Centre. I use it on an Intel NUC > Meridian Director but they also do Linux and Raspberry Pi "fully-baked" solutions.

*After the GL101, it was a slippery slope to this.*

I have the same surround unit, and find that audio from a PC or Mac USB port to the miniDSP U-DI08 (which outputs multichannel SPDIF) into your D1-D3 or D4-D6 sounds very good.

Get an ATV4K with Infuse 6 or VLC connect to your HD621, done.
(CIFS or NFS mount of PC directory)

Handles everything, VLC can also do multichannel FLAC.

I'm thinking the way to go is a NUC. What would the arguments be against a NUC? (I can't think of any).

Another box to manage and upgrade?

ATV4K is truly managementless with infuse 6. Full decode to PCM of all DTS Master/Atmos etc.

The only reason I didn't go the Apple TV route is because I have a HD621 and I would have needed to upgrade it to the UHD722 as there's only one HDMI output on the Apple TV. And because I had a spare PC sitting around doing nothing.
I did run an older NUC before but it didn't have the smoothest playback. (I think it was a gen 4 or 5 Nuc)

Perhaps consider Zappiti they seem much improved recently and have just won an EISA award for their Zappiti Pro 4K model.
I get the point about HD621 but , going forward , it's always worth it to keep up with the latest and greatest , we all want it eventually ;O)

I assume it would have worked fine with the HD621 as well just not in 4k?
