With laptop, MC200 & 818 all on the same switch(TP-link TL-SF1005D ) in the music room, both 818 and MC200 lose connection.

This switch is the 2nd switch in the network and connected by a CAT7 shielded cable 2x floors down to the Lounge into the 1st switch(Netgear GS205).....which is connected to the router.

I moved all of the above down to the lounge and connected them all to the same Netgear switch using some cheap cables I have.

This is the same switch and same set-up that the MC200 has been losing connection from.

In the short time I had it set up neither 818 or MC200 lost connection, which I have no idea why the MC200 now all of a sudden became stable....(as a side note 5200’s sound a hell of a lot more impressive with an 818 connected😀)

I have now brought the 818 back upstairs into the music room and connected 818 directly to the cable that runs into the Netgear switch and that was pretty stable, for the short period I had it connected, so it seems the Netgear switch is stable for now........I tried this previously and had drop outs.

I have now reverted back to original connection ‘just to see’.....I.e 818 re-connected to the 2nd switch (TP-Link)......and that is now pretty stable!!!!!!!!!!

No idea what is going on but after connecting them all to the same Netgear switch they seem to be behaving themselves.......touch wood.

Rather than buy another switch/switches just yet, I think I’m going to see how long this connection last for and maybe try and run a 2nd cable down the cavity(that’s since been filled with insulation so should be fun)

At least this will mean 818 and MC200 can be connected to the same switch and will probably help for when I buy a NUC and I can use Second switch without worrying about Audio issues.

Still a bit puzzled as to why everything seems to be working fine now, where as I’ve been getting regular I.e. every couple of minute disconnects previously.

I’ll update if I get any further issues.

Thanks again to all for the help and suggestions

Its good that things are stable but I really would not recommend keeping any TP link switch in a network link where any Sooloos protocol runs (this also includes Roon talking to Sooloos and may even apply to Roon itself but I don't know about the Roon protocols) - they have known issues random Google - TL-SG105 multicast issue

As for downlink, was it you that had previous problems with a cable in a cavity or was it someone else?

Hi Ian,

Thanks for the info on the TP link switch ... explains a lot.

Not had any issues with the cable in the wall ... it’s now ‘Protected’ by millions of small polystyrene balls as I’ve since had the wall insulated.

If the problem returns, I’m going to bite the bullet, get my drill out and install a 2nd cable.

Bit of a pain but then I’ll have 1x cable for internet/TV and a 1x purely for 818 to connect to same switch as MC200 downstairs.

This will also give me more options in the future, should I decide to trial an audiophile switch and also options on NUC placement(upstairs or downstairs).

Thanks again for your valued input.
Regards
Darren

P.S. Re-Instated headphone endpoint on laptop, see if the extra endpoint causes any dropouts.

I think the audiophile switch reference is a misnomer. The majority of us out here have for many years enjoyed our music, long before the term audiophile switch was invented. JMPOV

Some people have the same opinion about power cables ... I did until a few years ago.

Many on here have heard what a positive difference they can make ... myself included.

I'm all for sitting back and enjoying the music first and foremost but if something can get me closer and more immersed into that listening experience ... or the potential there of ... then i'll give it a go.

If I don't hear a difference, I just send it back and don't purchase.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained JMPOV wink

My comment was totally related to Audiophile Switches not to power cables. Your diversion is a valid point but my supply is clean and I have not found the need for extra quite large expense to improve my listening experience. I am happy to derive convenience from investments in music storage and streaming. JMPOV

Everyone to their own

Thought to use this thread to ask if a switch is required between a devolo dLAN 1200+ and ID41 (818v3)
My Roon converted MC200 -by MrTechguy- is on a switch which is directly connected to router port. From router it connects to Devolo 1200+ transmitter to a 1200+ receiving end.

Many thanks

Cheers!

Devolo Magic LAN's don't work at all. I seem to remember my DLAN 1200 did work but I did have a switch in between - I went hard-wired from the switch to the 818 and the DLAN ran the QNAP at the other end of it running Roon core.

Thanks for sharing. In the mean time i have been looking a bit further into this. I have time, as we are renovating our living I am without music on my main set. I am considering to place an Uptone EtherRegen switch between ID41 and Devolo. This one seems the choice of many music and gear enthusiasts. I could also change location of the MC200 Rock but that is the least obvious for me at the moment.

I have been having a similar problem the last couple of days. It started, possibly coincidentally, very shortly after I installed the Meridian app. I have Roon on a NUC directly connected to ID41. Multiple reboots of the NUC, 861, Roon app, tablet and phone left me still unable to connect. The Meridian app couldn’t find anything either. I uninstalled the Meridian app. Rebooted everything again. It now works most of the time. But has on multiple occasions lost the connection to the 861. Rebooting has helped each time. I can’t think of anything the Meridian app might have done to cause this instability. However, prior to installing the Meridian app the system had been pretty stable. Any thoughts?

Something changed in one of the recent Roon updates. I have both an ID41 and a 218 (two different zones) and I have to reboot almost daily as the connection gets dropped.

Someone suggested a “standard” network switch further up this thread. I think that is good advice. I plan to try it over the holiday. My switches are layer 3 and even with a factory reset may be doing something that is tripping up the Roon to endpoint sync.

If anyone else has this issue or even better has solved it please chime in.
