Roon is not connecting with my ID41.
System, all connected with Cat 6a: Router > Cisco 2960 switch > Cisco 2960 switch > PC > same cable providing connection back to Cisco switch > ID41 on 808v6 > DSP 8kSE.
I have had substantial help from VK with my config. and very good help from Richard at Reading Sevenoaks (Meridian dealer). I have re-typed and also loaded the latest firmware to the 808 but still no sound. I have tried to play stored music files and Roon radio. And I have tried a different cable. Meridian have also replied but think that it is a Roon settings problem (my thanks to Des and Meridian at this difficult time). I have also taken up Nic’s suggestion and scanned my network. This does show the ID41 (as well as everything else) so it is visible to my router and switches. The lights flash appropriately on the ID41 input. I do not have the latest firmware for the ID41 but Meridian recommend that it is better to sort out the problem before installing it.
There is a curiosity which I do not understand. If the USB connection between PC and 808 is made, then the ID41 connection is visible and appears to play with the sound meter active, although there is no sound. If the USB connection is disconnected, only “system output” is displayed in “Zones”; in “Settings” this now shows “system output” enabled; USB is visible but labelled “enabling” in red; Realtek HD Audio is visible with tab to enable (irrelevant PC soundcard); no ID41/Meridian 800 are visible but lights continue to flash on the ID41 input to the 808.
I would be grateful for any further suggestions anyone can make.
One further clarification is that my PC is running Windows 8 with an AMD A8 processor. I don’t know whether this is powerful enough to run Roon Core and Control, although it will run with the USB connection. (If I get this running I will probably get something with an i7 to run Core.)

If you have a spare 'dumb' switch around, you could see if that brings the ID41 to life.
In which case, it is possibly a config issue on the switch (I believe Roon finds the ID41 using mDNS, which requires multicast broadcasting to be enabled and it is possible on an intelligent, level 2/3 switch to do all sorts of things that would prevent that from working - although a complete factory reset should turn the Cisco into dumb mode again, with the potential to be configured to do more intelligent stuff).
On USB not working, I've experienced this, as has at least one other member very recently, but with different causes. In my case, it was a blown chip on the card, in the other I seem to recall it was a config issue on the processor (a search for posts on the USB this year should throw up a result).

Here's the thread I was writing about. He also explains what Rick did to fix it...

Hello Jeremy Thanks for your interest and reply, especially for searching out the old thread. USB actually plays perfectly, both for playing music files stored on the same PC as that running Roon, and also for internet streaming. Both Cisco switches have been "factory reset". I don't have any other switches. Thanks

Can you post pictures of your Roon settings/audio page when the USB is connected ?
It might be useful to see exactly where your USB connection is and where the ID41 is in the listing of zone types.

Hello Rick Thanks for the suggestion. The problem is that, at the moment, I only have Cisco managed switches, albeit factory reset. The pre-installation notes specifically advise against installing Device Manager with a managed switch. Thanks

Hello Nic I have managed to post a picture of the Roon page in the Gallery ![[Linked Image]](https://www.meridianunplugged.com/ubbthreads/gallery/16/full/3451.png) Tomorrow I will try and borrow a switch, although this will not be easy in lockdown. That should establish whether the Ciscos are the cause of the problem.

That is not really the picture I was after. Can you open Roon on your PC and go to the settings menu and select “Audio”.
The zone you have called SLS ..... is that your ID41 ? Do you have a Sooloos core still running somewhere?
Having had a look at the user manual for the Cisco devices you have I am amazed anyone would be able to make these work in a domestic setting. A factory reset will mean nothing if you don’t know what is on or off by default. I wouldn’t want to navigate a managed switch. Looks terrifying.
Report back when you have other switches to try.
Good luck
Rgds, Nick

No idea if it will work, but now that you have reset, see this thread on how to enable multicast on a 2960 series switch. Or sell it and put a dumb (but not tp-link) switch in its place.
