Just like the title. I have some speakers I am needing to test.

I can not find how to get the DSW2500 to play. I have tried all the settings on the back of the subwoofer. Just not sure if it’s getting the correct signal. I am using the signal out of the DSP5000. The 5000's are working fine.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi James, and welcome to the forum. I've not used a D2500 myself, but if you haven't already found this, the manual for it is in the "Duncan's Meridian Info" link at the top of every page. You can find it under DSP speakers.

Are you using a SPDIF + comms Meridian cable to connect the sub, or just a SPDIF coax? The sub will need comms to wake it up and be in sync with the DSP5000.

Welcome to the forum!

I am assuming that you've got the speakers properly connected. You should have a Master (M5) lead from the processor to the Master speaker, then a Slave (S5) lead to the slave speaker, and another S5 lead to the D2500. Make sure you go from processor to INPUT on master, master OUTPUT to slave INPUT and slave OUTPUT to D2500 input.

You need to make sure that the DSP5000's have been correctly typed - Type 6 should be fine - and check that the Master is the only master (i.e. Only one speaker should have the red light on)

Check that the power is on the D2500 (check for the green light) and you've got the channel selector to 1+2 (if you're just using it with the DSP5000s in stereo)
Try setting the filter switch to FLAT (ideally should be FILTER 1) but FLAT allows a full range signal to the sub. Finally, adjust the blue sub volume control.

Press the RESET button on the back of the D2500 and then press CLEAR on the MSR remote.

No luck, We're on type 5 and tried the 6 as well. Swapped cables and nothing. Green light is on, get a small pop when turning amp on. Other suggestions?

I will give a little more detail.

I am using a Raspberry Pi / hifiberry Digi card. SPDIF into L Master --> R Slave --> to Subwoofer.

I made the cables and followed the S5 pin configuration. Cables work when used between the Master and Slave 5000's.

Try coming out of the Master speaker and into the D2500 and see if that works. Also, try physically swapping the Master and Slave speakers over (i.e. make the Master the Slave and vice versa). The reason for this is that sometimes the buffer chip can fail, preventing slave comms.

The smaller brother of your sub the D1500 has been the infrequent subject of similar questions. When I got mine I had exactly the same rather fraught battle to get any noise out of it at all. Most frustrating in the reset button on the back which appears to be pretty much non-existent in the user manuals (Meridian is famous for this sort of thing) and doesn’t appear to do anything no matter how or when you press it. I considered taking the back panel off to prove it wasn’t connected to anything.

The answer for me was (having done everything else and knew it really should work now unless it’s broken, ie I’d proved there was a digital sound signal live on the wire plugged into it) was to go into calibration on the processor I was using at the time - 568 or G68 I cannot remember. This was suggested by the dealer I bought the sub from. I had no faith it could work but lo and behold a rumbling came forth and it seems to have worked since.

I don’t know what that does in terms of comms link to the sub to switch it on in a way that all my other efforts hadn’t done, so I don’t think it directly helps you. However maybe one of the bright people who understands how all the wiggly amps bits work might add something useful to try.

Darn, I purchased 4xDSP5000, Matching center and Sub and I was going to create a couple stereo pairs with the sub on one. Seems to be a lot of work and very unique setup. Just might sell them, haven't decided yet. I thank you for the assistance in working through it.

It would help the cause if you also mentioned which Processor you are running your speakers from.

You mention that you have four DSP5000's, potentially a centre DSP5000 and the D2500 subwoofer. In that setup with Type 6, you should be running your fronts on D1-2, Centre and D2500 on D3-4 and rears on D7-8.

Whether you make one of the front speakers your Master or the Centre speaker, you will run the M5 Master speaker cable to the Master Speaker (D1-2) to the front master or (D3-4) to the centre master (whatever you have chosen) but then you will need to run a S5 lead from the Master to the slave speaker (which would be the D2500 if the Centre was chosen as the Master).

From your Slave speaker Comms out socket, you will need to bring back another S5-Lead back from the slave speaker Comms to a Meridan 511 slave patch panel. This patch panel will be located right next to your four digital speaker outputs as you will plugging in the remaining speaker digital plug into the appropriate Digital speaker output and the S5 lead comms plug into the the patch panel then plug the other end into one of the other speaker pairs and then another S5 lead across to the other speaker in the pair.

With no sides speakers you will be left with one empty socket in the in the 5 socket patch panel, as well as the unoccupied D5-6 output plug in the processor.

Therefore you will need the following to successfully set up for 5.1 sound;

1 x M5 lead
6 x S5 leads
1 x 511 patch panel

You can get away with a SL0 patch panel which installs inside of an 861 and only has 4 sockets which is okay for a 5.1 setup, but if you go to sides you will need 5 sockets, hence the recommendation to prioritise finding a 511, if you have neither.

You can see a picture of that in Duncan's Meridian Info under the 500 series. The SL00 is a card in the 800 series cards section.

You are probably right Neil ! Just realised his objective is a couple of “stereo pairs” with the sub joining one of them.

Hasn’t SpeakerLink simplified setting up a Meridian multi-channel system though.

I'ts a long story but basically the original owner had two surround system. He took the electronics to have a backup and didn't take the speakers. Now I own them. As a stereo set they are great and sound good.

I know the sub worked when paired with the processor. I am just wanting to see if I can get it to work. It seems like I will be posting them up for sale. I appreciate all the assistance.
