It was certainly sold to me as a feature five years ago when I considered this option (and I even seem to remember seeing it on the Meridian data sheet too, so can't really blame the dealer!).

Completely independently of Meridian, I came to the conclusion before then that the stats hard drives produce aren't hugely helpful in predicting hard drive failure as they can fail very suddenly. While a few may show some symptoms in advance of failing, many I've had did not.

Hi JeremyB

You may want to check the DOM (Disc On Module) function on your MD600 (which enabled core on MD600).

I had a similar experience, the broken MD600 was returned to Meridian and they advised that they replaced the DOM and subsequently all was well until I decomissioned said item and finally moved to Roon.

Not sure if this is relevant in your case but just another piece in the jigsaw without the picture on the lid of the box.

Just my experience

Hector

Thank you Hector. I had to Google what a DOM is (years ago it used to refer to a Dirty Old Man!). Having done that I think I will work on the basis of 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' because the MD600 now seems to be performing as it should. If a similar problem occurs again in the not too distant future I may have to consider looking at things more closely. Eventually, like you, I may also need to consider changing from my MD600 to another device. Got to keep the music flowing smile J.

I recommend you have a native export of your music ready to make the inevitable transition easier.
