Serial number starts with a 1 so I think they're the older version. Definitely not the smiley version.

Yes they are mark 1

Only a couple of months ago I missed out on a pair of 5k smileys that went for £350 now that was a bargain.

Yes I saw those unfortunately after they sold, which they probably did within 5 Mins!

That’s the ones my wife banned me from bidding ... can you believe it.

I’m amazed you had the self control and held back, I know I wouldn’t have!, mind you my partner let’s me bid on hifi (if we lived in the same house I’m sure it would be a different story though), and if she had any financial involvement with such transactions !.

I bought a pair of 18bit DSP5000s back in Sep 2018,paid £400. they were incredibly well packed, must have had at least 3 alternating layers of thick cardboard and bubblewrap.
I was so impressed that I contacted the sellers personally to thank them. The speakers have since been recapped and are, without doubt, the best speakers I have owned.
I have managed to buy a replacement woofer and tweeter, along with a complete back plate - DSP, amps and PSU, so I'm covered until/unless I win the lottery

Thanks. I've got an eBay alert set up for the DSP5Ks now - fingers crossed a better pair shows up for a good price! Let me know if there are other places I should keep an eye out

There’s a pair on Gumtree currently, doesn’t say if they’re 18 or 24 bit, but claim to be in vgc, with all cables, manual and msr. Located Kings Lynn area. Price bit higher than your eBay pair, but with a little friendly negotiation.........?

Just seen a pair of 5000s on Gumtree in Black Ash, complete with grilles, MSR, connecting cables, manual & power cables - seem to be in very good condition and described as working perfectly - asking £550 - based in Kings Lynn, Norfolk.

Look to be much, much better than the ones you bought & should be worth checking out.

Thanks! I'm in Dundee and don't have a car, so I think it would be need to be someone that can do delivery (which was partly why I was so happy to find these speakers ) As you say - they do show up often enough, so fingers crossed!

Yep, Norfolk is quite a way from Dundee !
