I have now had a chance to try some original Sooloos kit (an Ensemble) on my network to see if it suffers from the Tidal problem when acting as the Sooloos core whereas my QNAP Sooloos core does not. I found that Tidal does not allow the Ensemble to be logged in whereas the QNAP continues without problem. It would seem that there is something characteristic about Meridian hardware, as others have concluded. It is bizarre that this should occur at the same time as Tidal is promoting Meridian's Sooloos system as a route to Tidal at home.

These older devices have what’s best described as obsolete Network Interface Controllers (NICs), they don’t readily support modern networking demands (one of the reasons why it’s unlikely they will ever be able to support RAAT) ... I hope M diagnosis the issue and find a solution soon for their legacy equipment Sooloos users.

Just an unfortunate coincidence, but I guess a little embarrassing for the Marketing department(s).

Carl

I found this thread useful as was just pulling my hair out after finally having time to listen to some MQA tracks only to find none of my Tidal tracks were accessible from the MC200.
After a quick bit of internet searching, I found that Tidal have deprecated the username and password access and moved to a more secure process. Hence why a firmware update (confirmed in this thread) is needed.
Time to get the Dragonfly and Oppo headphones out...

At least it looks like Meridian are trying to support us which is very appreciated.

Today, I was told by my Meridian Rep, that Sooloos will no longer support TIDAL. The login-account is already blocked.
Good-bye Sooloos.

Apparently, only alternative is Roon. Other options are based on Bluetooth, WiFi that obviously comes with some data loss.

Is this correct?

Your Meridian rep (do you mean a dealer?) is right in a certain way: Meridian's official position is that they no longer support Sooloos development. If you look higher up this thread you will see that there is some hope that they may address this Tidal login problem. Also, I have found with my kit that though Meridian's own branded hardware for the Sooloos core seems to have problems, my Sooloos core running on my QNAP works fine with Tidal.

If, like me, you like the straightforwardness (even simplicity) of Sooloos (I do have Roon as well) then don't give up yet. The QNAP route is not a very expensive way to get your Sooloos core (and I understand you can even now run Roon on one if you wish - though the NUC route is possibly better if you have TB quantities of music.

This is a mess. The cat appears to have escaped from the bag again.

Surely there is a Sooloos exit plan.

Just maybe, Meridian will make a support offer to the remaining Sooloos users worldwide to make the switch to Roon.

To my way of thinking this is the logical solution to the predicament they find themselves in. Of course this is entirely dependant on the numbers of remaining users.

Or did I dream that last night, as I am not sleeping well at this difficult time.

Hector

I wanted to say I’m actually having the opposite experience. This is at 2 different locations, not sure if that matters. My Control:15 I was able to login into to Tidal late last week. The other setup has a QNAP running the Sooloos core and an MS200 player WILL NOT login to Tidal. I would not suggest this as a solution.

Waiting to see what Meridian does. I understand they’re not updating Sooloos. But if this is just a login mechanism issue perhaps they’ll offer a solution. It would certainly be a good gesture to clients that have invested a lot in their systems.

Roon is obviously the path forward. It also offers much better music discovery IMO along with other benefits. If you’re going to spend money to fix the problem that would be my recommendation, and they do have free trials. I’m running my Roon core on an old Mac Mini.

I’ve registered after years or reading this website and gratefully receiving the knowledge from others with greater experience.

Unfortunately I find myself doing this in a panic to express my disappointment that my Sooloos (MC200/818) which has brought years of enjoyment now no longer functions with Tidal as others have mentioned.

PLEASE fix this Meridian.

My sizeable FLAC library on the MC200 has been almost untouched/unused since my Tidal subscription (and to a lesser extent Rhapsody before that) as I have been very happy with the Tidal quality through my Meridian equipment (into ATC active speakers) and especially happy with the huge choice and ability to discover new music. I’m sure many others are in the same boat with very expensive equipment of exceptional quality now almost lying useless.

I’m really hoping this is fixed as I have found my ultimate system I am happy with and it feels like the carpet has been pulled from under me in terms of my ability to enjoy music as before. (It doesn’t help that I discovered thus after promising both my children their favourite songs before bedtime of course!).

MC200, 818v1 both using Tidal & Sooloos into active ATC’s. The MC200 digital via a Benchmark DAC/pre.
