Hello All,
This morning I find that I cannot access Tidal from Sooloos.
I went through the regular steps to trouble shoot. Hard Off shut down of the C15, MS600 and 818, but still no Tidal.
I can log into Tidal on my phone and laptop and it works fine. I can also play all my bookmarked Tune-In radio stations on Sooloos, but no Tidal.
Anyone else having this problem?

Just checked and working fine here in the UK.
Try deleting and re-adding your TIDAL account in Sooloos...

Thanks for the tip. I gave it a try but no luck. Tidal will still not let me log in through Sooloos. Strange.....
I did not shut down my cable modem and router first time around. I'm now going to try that as well as shutting down the whole system.

Same here. Tried all what you tried. Connected to Tunein radio, my internet connection is OK and I am able to find my regular library. But not Tidal.
Just hoping it is an issue with Tidal and its connectivity to Sooloos and Roon rather than something else. I have always been afraid of the time when Tidal will not be able to connect with Sooloos due to lack of compatibility.

Well, I'm still out. But I am feeling a little better as it's not likely some gremlin in my system. Hopefully it's an issue at Tidal and not with Meridian/Sooloos.

Roon is back online again, may be worth trying again

Just tried searching for a new album in Tidal (via Sooloos)... no joy. Removed account in Sooloos and tried to re-configure. Still no joy. Came onto this site to see if anyone had posted... at least I can rule out an error on my part Hoping it’s nothing too sinister... ie Tidal not being supported anymore within Sooloos.

I am having the same problem with Sooloos, nothing I did including changing my password in Tidal works. Sooloos just does not recognize my Tidal account.

I am not running my Sooloos kit currently, but these problems are very strange because only a few days ago (last Saturday) I got an email from Tidal telling me that I could enjoy Tidal now through all sorts of different equipment which they then listed. All the modern stuff is there, but Meridian's entry promotes and refers to just Sooloos!

I'm streaming Tidal via 808v6 & MS200 in the UK using Roon with no issues which would suggest the issue may be with Sooloos? Don't know if this helps you or not. Best of luck sorting it out.

I haven't used Sooloos for a while, though I do like it so I thought I would try it again to see whether it would work at all (I have a Roon Rock nucleus on the same network as well) and whether Tidal would work. I am delighted to report that everything, including Tidal, with the Sooloos core on my QNAP TS-253A, is working perfectly.

Hmm, I’m another one who lost my ability Yesterday to access Tidal via my MC200 and iPad. On the plus side, it’s good that others have the same issue - I.e. it’s not my connections that are up the spout. It definitely is worrying however, I do hope we ‘loyal’ Sooloos users are not Now being forced now to move over to Roon.
I have dropped an e-mail to Richard at Sevenoaks in Reading, my trusted M supplier over the last 20 years, just in case he has heard anything.
Only saving grace is that at least I still have a hundred CD copied albums still accessible in my MC200 library, but I do miss the Tidal link, especially for MQA playlists.

I am still able to stream TIDAL through Sooloos here in the UK.
Random thought - my core last restarted > 11 days ago - could I suggest that people check to see if there is a correlation between the core restarting and TIDAL access?

I had an unusual experience today with Roon / Tidal. It played OK yesterday, however today I selected an album in my library Tidal Import and pressed play. Nothing happened, first track highlighted on Roon app screen but would not start playing.
I played a CD on 808 player, no problem.
Went back to Roon / Tidal no change, I had full access to my library but nothing would play, whether it was streamed from Tidal or a ripped CD in my library. I rebooted Nucleus + but the problem persisted. No Joy.
Rebooted Nucleus + a second time and hey presto back to normality. However I did get briefly an onscreen message that my Roon Core device needed an update. Very weird.

I restarted my MD600 core yesterday and that hasn’t had any effect. Sorry I was not clear. My thought was that possibly restarting the core was the cause (after a possible change in the TIDAL/Sooloos connectivity) rather than the cure. Second random thought (derived from the above) - perhaps deleting all Sooloos and TIDAL cookies might shake things out? Supplementary (nudged by Hector's experience): I am noticing a number of tracks will not play due to the "slow network response" feature, for example "Caroline" from Dragonfly by Jefferson Starship and "Syntelman's March of the Roaring Seventies" ( et alia) from Amon Duul II - Live in London

I spoke with a M service person in the US. They are aware of the problem, but do not have any solution yet. He suspects it relates to some changes at Tidal, as there were issues with Tidal and Roon connectivity earlier in the week. He noted not every Sooloos user is experiencing this problem with Tidal.

Just tried the two tracks again through Sooloos with the same result....
They both play fine via the TIDAL app on my laptop.

Hector, Roon had an online outage the other day and that may have caused your issue.

My problem did not manifest itself until well after the Roon outage unless there was a second outage.
This could have occurred without notice or I wonder if an automatic update was taking place on my Nucleus + relating to the core at the time I tried to use it.
This would go some way to explain the update message simultaneously received on my PC and Mac after which the system recovered normal service.

I think it’s a Sooloos issue not Tidal issue, if those with Roon are up and running again.
Tidal app on my phone and iPad are working fine, I just can’t get Tidal to work through Sooloos(using an MC200).
I have also tried using Touch PC on my surface laptop and get the same connection problems.
I’m UK based, so it’s a universal Sooloos issue.....I’m guessing.
I’m not even sure Meridian are supporting Sooloos anymore?
This may be the time to think of finally jumping ship if this doesn’t get resolved.

I think it’s a Sooloos issue not Tidal issue, if those with Roon are up and running again. I tend to agree here, thinking back to how we noticed it. My children were trying to play some tracks and Sooloos could not find any zones, I checked my phone and I could find the server but not load any zones either. After a few reboots of the MC200 zones came back but only local files played, no tidal.

I fear you are correct. This may indeed be the end of Sooloos. I will not be happy about this if true. I have invested a lot of $$$$ in Meridian/Sooloos like many. For Meridian to just cut and run rather then support Sooloos for at least 3 - 5 years or so will leave a bad taste.
Why would anyone purchase [u any[/u] Meridian product that needs software to function? "Sorry, the warranty has expired, your on your own".
Think about all the folks that purchased an MC200, C15 or MD600 just before they announced they are no longer supporting Sooloos. I fear this is a company in trouble.

Pure speculation
It would be logical that this is a Tidal issue caused by the movement of the Roon moon. The cause surely must emanate from a Tidal change.
High water for Sooloos?
Will Sooloos users be stranded at the Tidal Line, or will Meridian step in and get their feet wet and sort it out with Tidal.
Please respond Meridian.

I've also got the Tidal login issue in the UK. I'm using MD600 as Core into two MS600 zones.
There was mention further up the thread that a Core restart might trigger the issue. A bit anecdotal as I can't remember the exact sequence but I did power cycle the Core last week post which I noticed the issue. Like many I've been working from home and I had a problem with Control:PC connecting, which I ended up resolving by the Core restart after failing to solve by restarting computer. My Core had been up for weeks/months prior to that.
I really hope Meridian come through with a fix for this. Tidal is a really important part of the Sooloos experience for me and I don't really want to go down the Roon route. I'm happy with the Sooloos interface and functionality and don't want the cost/hassle of implementing a new solution, particularly with all the uncertainty in the world at the moment.
Come on Meridian, you are making it very hard for people to consider investing in your products with the total lack of support for Sooloos. Fine if you don't want to upgrade the software but at minimum maintain the existing functionality to protect your loyal customers and their investments.

I think Tidal recently changed the login process. Roon changed to deal with that.
I assume that HQ will have to modify Sooloos is a similar way.

I admire your optimism, it might not be that easy. Do Meridian still have access to the original Sooloos program sources? Do they actually have any programmers that work for them who would be capable of understanding/modifying these sources?
On the other hand 5 days ago M posted their annual accounts to June 2019. They actually reported a small (£30K) net profit, a tad better than their £928K loss of the previous year. So you would have thought, if nothing else, they would be willing to use some of the kitty to pay one of the original programmerS (at Roon?) to make the necessary software change.
If the theory is right that Tidal changed their login process, I am surprised that they did so without the courtesy of informing their partners in advance, of which there must be many.

Tidal may have informed M but without any action from M I fear for the worst! We now have 16 zones I our house without music (Tidal) making me forced to think of a new solution and guess what I am not thinking of Meridian.

If we all put pressure on Tidal this may be the best way to get Meridian into action. After all Tidal stands to loose costumers as well.

After all Tidal stands to loose costumers as well. Meridian Sooloos is insignificant to TIDAL. This has to go through Meridian for any resolution to happen. Not that we know what the problem actually is.

I haven't had an issue accessing Tidal all through this period that the problem has been reported. I rebooted my QNAP a couple of days before the first post in this thread to fix a problem I had with Napster. Tidal has been solid for me pretty much the whole time I've had my Sooloos system. I do have the issue of long tracks from Tidal not playing on Sooloos and it is one of the reasons I keep Napster around.

There was mention further up the thread that a Core restart might trigger the issue. Twas my guess/hypothesis. I have not yet experienced the problem. My core has now been up-and-running for ~13 days and 13 hours.

Do Meridian still have access to the original Sooloos program sources? Of course. It is their IP. Why would they not. Do they actually have any programmers that work for them who would be capable of understanding/modifying these sources? No idea but probably yes. ....original programmerS (at Roon?) to make the necessary software change. I doubt it but who knows. Roon will be busy with Roon stuff. If the theory is right that Tidal changed their login process, I am surprised that they did so without the courtesy of informing their partners in advance, of which there must be many. ....too many wild assumptions here. It's odd that some people are impacted and others not. Sounds bizarrely like another proper crisis doesn't it.

I did wonder if the type of subscription you have was perhaps relevant? I pay my £19.99 for the hi-fi/ masters, so I can listen to MQA. From my iPad app, the only Tidal options now displayed concern masters (but there is no content shown). Is there anybody on this site experiencing problems who have the non masters subscription?

It's odd that some people are impacted and others not. Sounds bizarrely like another proper crisis doesn't it. I suspect it only affects whoever restarted their core recently. In my case, it was a power outage last Monday. It was working great before, until - I assume - Sooloos tries to login to TIDAL again after the forced reboot and cannot because TIDAL changed meanwhile their protocol. Or something like that.

I do not think it was related to a core reboot. Mine was working fine previously, and stopped working abruptly without a core reboot. No power issues here (have a back-up generator that would flag a power outage).

In the light of the continuing problems people are having with Tidal and Sooloos I thought I should try again using my QNAP Sooloos core. I have just done it and it is working perfectly, playing a new MQA album (not one I like but it was the first I came to) from Tidal Masters.
However, I think I should state that I have only tried doing this with my laptop and the Sooloos app that is part of running the core on my QNAP - it is a web browser interface.
I'll try and look out one of my old iPads (which don't work with Roon) and see what happens when I try and run things through that. I will report in due course.

OK. Decided to do the test on my iPad Mini 5 as I had packed away my old iPads ready for sale. This means I have just downloaded the Sooloos app from the Apple store as I have only been using Roon recently.
Everything worked perfectly (and I didn't even need to sign in to Tidal - it must know me from using it for Roon and/or my other iOS devices).
What I can't do at all easily, as they are packed away, is try using one of my C10s or using my ensemble as a core.

I assume that HQ will have to modify Sooloos is a similar way. I am waiting for a new display board for a G61 but Meridian have closed due to restrictions. Could be a bit of a wait for a fix. As you say it’s an assumption, like many of the posts in this topic, however ... Software development doesn’t require a physical presence, remote working is de rigour, so the lockdown should only have minimal affect on any Sooloos fixes. That said, if a fix is required then it could be still be a wait for a fix ... but that would be down to Meridian’s resourcing prioritises. Regards, Carl

Same here. Tidal was working just fine. I have not had to reboot the core for many many weeks. Tidal just stopped, I got a message that it was having trouble connecting.

Joel,
So if it is unlikely that Tidal read across my credentials from my other devices to allow me in, what do you think might be going on?

Hi Gianni,
This is what I have.
Start Time: 4/16/2020 @ 16:59:57 Up Time: 3 Days, 1 Hour, 45 min.
This is after my second reboot. I noticed Tidal was unavailable on 4/15/2020 early evening and rebooted my system (C15, MD600 and 818) That did not work so I did nothing else that day. The next day there was a suggestion from a Hitchhiker to also reboot the router and modem and that was done on 4/16/2020 as shown above, as well as the whole Sooloos System. Still no love.

@Marshman - thankyou.
So there is a possibility that your Sooloos core had auto-restarted before 4/15/2020 early evening, possibly leading to the TIDAL issue.
Please understand I am trying to eliminate my guess as to the cause. I could do this by restarting my MD600 core to see if TIDAL is disabled but I am (understandably I hope) reluctant to do that yet.
Do you run core on the C15 or the MD600?

Gianni,
I guess it's possible that the core auto rebooted, but I have not rebooted it in weeks. It's been my experience that it only reboots after a Sooloos software update, and we have not seen one of those in some time.
I am running the core on the MD600. The C15 has always been used as a control point.

Hello I’ve exactly the same problems with TIDAL since some days.
I can log into Tidal on my phone and laptop and it works fine. I can also play all my bookmarked Tune-In radio stations on Sooloos, but no Tidal. The Tidal account works with iPhone and iPad

Tidal Member support replied to my request: FYI, these are the question they asked, and how I answered it:
What device are you using to stream TIDAL? Meridian / Sooloos MC200
What is the software running on your device? Sooloos Version 2.538 Device Build: 1579 (see image attached)
What is the exact version of TIDAL running on your device? TIDAL software is not running on the streamer MC200: I use my account credential to lo in to TIDAL through Sooloos
When did you first notice this issue? Early last week
Does this issue occur when you are connected to WiFi or cellular data? No, the device is connected with a LAN cable to the router
Are you receiving any error messages? If so, which one(s)? See screen copies attached
Have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling the app? I have tried removing the TIDAL account from the MC200 and add it again, to no avail.
Do you have this issue when using any other TIDAL client - desktop application/web player/mobile application? I have no problem with the actual TIDAl app on my laptop or my cell phone
Are there any troubleshooting steps that you have tried already? Rebooting the Meridian MC200, to no avail. NOTE: I am not the only one in this situation. Several other Meridian Sooloos users have reported the same problem since last week.

Meridian are aware of the issue and looking into it. This may take longer than normal as they are short-staffed due to the lock-down.
I'll post more info when I have it.

I believe we all need to show a bit of patience and this will get sorted. I am sure that Meridian was just as surprised as we are at whatever changed that broke Tidal for Sooloos users.

I have now lived with the Tidal app for a couple of days! I play via my iPad and Apple TV and the SQ is ok! I listened to loads of music suggested to me! But it’s taken over and I no longer feel that I pick the music, like radio!

Hi All,
The issue has been replicated at Meridian and they are in discussions with Tidal to find a remedy.

I have now had a chance to try some original Sooloos kit (an Ensemble) on my network to see if it suffers from the Tidal problem when acting as the Sooloos core whereas my QNAP Sooloos core does not. I found that Tidal does not allow the Ensemble to be logged in whereas the QNAP continues without problem. It would seem that there is something characteristic about Meridian hardware, as others have concluded. It is bizarre that this should occur at the same time as Tidal is promoting Meridian's Sooloos system as a route to Tidal at home.

I found that Tidal does not allow the Ensemble to be logged in whereas the QNAP continues without problem. It would seem that there is something characteristic about Meridian hardware, as others have concluded. These older devices have what’s best described as obsolete Network Interface Controllers (NICs), they don’t readily support modern networking demands (one of the reasons why it’s unlikely they will ever be able to support RAAT) ... I hope M diagnosis the issue and find a solution soon for their legacy equipment Sooloos users. It is bizarre that this should occur at the same time as Tidal is promoting Meridian's Sooloos system as a route to Tidal at home. Just an unfortunate coincidence, but I guess a little embarrassing for the Marketing department(s). Regards, Carl

I found this thread useful as was just pulling my hair out after finally having time to listen to some MQA tracks only to find none of my Tidal tracks were accessible from the MC200. After a quick bit of internet searching, I found that Tidal have deprecated the username and password access and moved to a more secure process. Hence why a firmware update (confirmed in this thread) is needed. Time to get the Dragonfly and Oppo headphones out...
At least it looks like Meridian are trying to support us which is very appreciated.

Today, I was told by my Meridian Rep, that Sooloos will no longer support TIDAL. The login-account is already blocked. Good-bye Sooloos.
Apparently, only alternative is Roon. Other options are based on Bluetooth, WiFi that obviously comes with some data loss.
Is this correct?

Your Meridian rep (do you mean a dealer?) is right in a certain way: Meridian's official position is that they no longer support Sooloos development. If you look higher up this thread you will see that there is some hope that they may address this Tidal login problem. Also, I have found with my kit that though Meridian's own branded hardware for the Sooloos core seems to have problems, my Sooloos core running on my QNAP works fine with Tidal.
If, like me, you like the straightforwardness (even simplicity) of Sooloos (I do have Roon as well) then don't give up yet. The QNAP route is not a very expensive way to get your Sooloos core (and I understand you can even now run Roon on one if you wish - though the NUC route is possibly better if you have TB quantities of music.

This is a mess. The cat appears to have escaped from the bag again.
Surely there is a Sooloos exit plan.
Just maybe, Meridian will make a support offer to the remaining Sooloos users worldwide to make the switch to Roon.
To my way of thinking this is the logical solution to the predicament they find themselves in. Of course this is entirely dependant on the numbers of remaining users.
Or did I dream that last night, as I am not sleeping well at this difficult time.

I wanted to say I’m actually having the opposite experience. This is at 2 different locations, not sure if that matters. My Control:15 I was able to login into to Tidal late last week. The other setup has a QNAP running the Sooloos core and an MS200 player WILL NOT login to Tidal. I would not suggest this as a solution.
Waiting to see what Meridian does. I understand they’re not updating Sooloos. But if this is just a login mechanism issue perhaps they’ll offer a solution. It would certainly be a good gesture to clients that have invested a lot in their systems.
Roon is obviously the path forward. It also offers much better music discovery IMO along with other benefits. If you’re going to spend money to fix the problem that would be my recommendation, and they do have free trials. I’m running my Roon core on an old Mac Mini.

I’ve registered after years or reading this website and gratefully receiving the knowledge from others with greater experience.
Unfortunately I find myself doing this in a panic to express my disappointment that my Sooloos (MC200/818) which has brought years of enjoyment now no longer functions with Tidal as others have mentioned.
PLEASE fix this Meridian.
My sizeable FLAC library on the MC200 has been almost untouched/unused since my Tidal subscription (and to a lesser extent Rhapsody before that) as I have been very happy with the Tidal quality through my Meridian equipment (into ATC active speakers) and especially happy with the huge choice and ability to discover new music. I’m sure many others are in the same boat with very expensive equipment of exceptional quality now almost lying useless.
I’m really hoping this is fixed as I have found my ultimate system I am happy with and it feels like the carpet has been pulled from under me in terms of my ability to enjoy music as before. (It doesn’t help that I discovered thus after promising both my children their favourite songs before bedtime of course!).
MC200, 818v1 both using Tidal & Sooloos into active ATC’s. The MC200 digital via a Benchmark DAC/pre.

Your experience being the reverse of mine is perplexing and hence very interesting. There is no question my QNAP is working fine, as is Tom's (Zebedee99) but I only tried my Ensemble as a Meridian core. When I get a moment I'll set up another piece of Meridian kit as the core and see what happens.

@AdamAJP,
It's annoying as is anything that stops working but you do have an option you can use immediately.
Your MC200 is the only piece of kit at risk of obsolescence here. Your 818 will keep running just fine with Roon and Tidal if that is such a major issue right now.
You can do that on a trial basis for 30 days while you wait for further info from HQ.
You can then make an informed decision in due course.
PS I certainly would not be buying a QNAP now in the hope that it might work and importantly continue to work. I think the odds are stacked against that happening despite what some are finding right now.
Rgds, Nick

Please speak to us
The MC200 we can do some work to make it run Roon.
It has to come back to us to do it, but we have a kit we have made to use reuse the MC200 as a Roon core.

It has to come back to us to do it, but we have a kit we have made to use reuse the MC200 as a Roon core. Just curious Does it also allow the MC200 to run as an Roon audio endpoint using the internal audio card? I only recently got rid of my MC200, and was looking to transform it into a Roon device, but the audio card was always the sticking point. It would be great for those with the MC200 if it could be repurposed with the same audio capabilities as the Sooloos version without having to shoehorn in another audio device. Another nice touch, wish it had been sold as part of Sooloos itself, would be to enable standard USB audio.

You loose the audio endpoint.
But a lot of customers seem to be using MC200’s with other end points.
However if you were not only running a MC200 there are options we can put on the table.

When I get a moment I'll set up another piece of Meridian kit as the core and see what happens. I think it would be dangerous to infer that there is something special about the Sooloos software on QNAP devices; I certainly wouldn't base a purchase decision on a couple of data points.

I wonder whether those QNAPs that are having problems with Tidal were set up long ago (and not updated to 4.3.x firmware) or, in complete contrast, set up rather recently. The only thing I know about my and Tom's QNAPs, which both work with Tidal, is that they are both on 4.3.x firmware (though his is a slightly later version than mine).
Joel: am I right in thinking there is a Roon version for QNAPs with x86 processors? If so, getting a QNAP would not be so dangerous as one could always switch to Roon if that became absolutely necessary. I expect that, as a Roon developer, you would like us all to switch immediately, but please allow those of us who like the old horses a fighting chance and not frighten those horses too much!

I don't know whether this actually answers your question but I have Roon running as core on a QNAP 'Silent NAS' with no problems. I also have my library stored on it as well. Just need to make sure that you have sufficient RAM in the QNAP to run the core ideally min. 4GB.

Yes, there is a RoonServer package for QNAP, but be warned: you need a FAR more powerful QNAP than one which will run Sooloos. See this Roon Knowledge Base article. Personally, I think that NAS devices have had their day and a NAS is certainly not a route I would entertain myself or recommend to anyone. I retired mine years ago and replaced it with several (single 8TB drive) WD My Passport units: one is directly attached to my NUC and this is backed up to the other two whenever I add some more local music (not often). The moment I get an Internet connection with a decent upload speed, I am seriously considering putting my music in the Cloud and streaming it from there. If I had to make a non-Nucleus recommendation, it would be ROCK on an 8th gen i3 Intel NUC (which is considerably more able than my 6yo i5 NUC, so I wouldn't get hung up on i3 vs. i5 vs. i7), but I accept that this requires some technical knowledge. That said, there is plenty of support here and over on Roon's Community forum if that's a route that takes your fancy. But there are many many ways of installing Roon; just make sure the hardware is suitably spec'd (SSD, processor, memory). As for Sooloos to Roon conversions, if and when they happen, they are of course very welcome, but -- and not wanting to sound arrogant or complacent (we are neither) -- our reach has been way beyond the Sooloos user base for a very long time.

Roon on a QNAP (with an i3 or better processor) is fine ... check out the Roon Knowledge Base - QNAP page. IMPORTANT: as per RKB note it should have at least one SSD connected to store the Roon Database. Though unlike the RKB, imho 4GB RAM is the minimum and if purchasing a new device I would recommend specifying 8 GB ... Regards, Carl

Thank you all for the responses.
As it happens, I have my Roon core on an 8th gen NUC with i7 processor, 16GB of RAM and 256GB SSD.
Unlike so much of Roon (that is a purely personal observation) I found putting Roon's OS on it to make a ROCK was extremely straightforward by just following the very clear online Roon instructions.
My point about Roon on a QNAP is that while it might be a bit slow if you have the sort of enormous collections that some people evidently do have, you do have a choice if Sooloos is extinguished.

I just wanted to thank some of the members (especially ncpl) for their kind replies.
I’ll do some research on Roon and may see what I can set up quickly with what I have. Enjoying rediscovering my library now however despite the loss of all the available music on tidal. From what little I have researched already a pc and an extra subscription is all that is required although I lose a zone.
So in summary: - Pay more (monthly potentially with some hardware as required/wished for) - Get less (minus one zone) - But retain iOS control of tidal with all the digital goodness through my 818 in my upstairs (attic) main system - Or I have to go back to analogue wired tidal into either system (my MC200 currently sends digital out to a benchmark pre/DAC downstairs to allow tv etc to be accommodated before a smaller set of active ATC’s). I do have an audioquest dragonfly red however which does MQA.
Still holding out for a fix however although I imagine tidal would not notice much of a drop in subscriptions if everyone with Sooloos stops their subscriptions and Meridian would have to fix it out of the kindness of their hearts (although potentially retain some customers longer term - e.g. upgrading my existing 818 and/or adding a second).
Fingers crossed here...
MC200, 818v1 both using Tidal & Sooloos into active ATC’s. The MC200 digital via a Benchmark DAC/pre.

As you can imagine with UK on lockdown the factory is on reduced staff.
I am in constant contact with the team at Meridian and as soon as we have an official release we will post it.

Official statement received by e-mail today: While investigating the issue you and other Sooloos users are experiencing with accessing Tidal on your systems, we have been made aware that Tidal are planning to decommission the current login process used by Sooloos and replace it with a new method which is incompatible with the Sooloos platform. This will affect all Sooloos systems, not just those experiencing problems at present. In light of the development freeze of Sooloos, which we announced in March 2019, this means Tidal integration will no longer be supported for Sooloos users. Our recommendation for customers who wish to continue using Tidal is that they should migrate to the Roon streaming service. All Sooloos endpoints are compatible with Roon and the positive feedback we receive from customers who have already made such a move indicates that Roon is a natural successor to Sooloos. Your Meridian dealer is aware of the situation, so please contact them to discuss the options for your particular requirements. Regards, Customer Support Team Meridian Audio Ltd www.meridian-audio.comWill this mean I can use 861v8 as endpoint with Roon?

If you have an ID41 card in your 861v8, then yes. It's always been compatible with Roon.

Will this mean I can use 861v8 as endpoint with Roon? Via an ID41 card yes, it's fine I run my 861 this way. Roon supports the Sooloos network protocol, thus it can stream to any of the existing Sooloos endpoint such as the ID40, ID41, MS200, MS600, etc. Though as this is still the Sooloos protocol and is restricted to 96KHz, unlike the Roon network protocol (RAAT) which supports higher rates and also native DSD. I am in constant contact with the team at Meridian and as soon as we have an official release we will post it. Hi, Have we had the official release from Meridian or is this correct? Thanks Jon

If the above post is correct I would like to request the Moderators to change the title of this stream to "Problem with Meridian?".

Hi,
The above is true. they have already announced that further development of Sooloos was ceasing several years ago.
It is amazing that Sooloos and Tidal had kept working so long. However, the issues lie with the new password process of Tidal this is to meet better standards.
The recommendation is to migrate over to Roon, Some dealers like ourselves are willing to help in this transition and we have several solutions which we can take people through.
We are already helping our customers with migration to Roon and we are willing to help anyone that contacts us or phones us.
Companies have to make decisions that will affect people like this. Microsoft has done it a number of times with its operating software.
Sooloos is a great system however development was ceased and the development team became Roon so it makes sense to migrate over.
Regards Edd

Hi Edd, Just to be clear, Meridian announced, as per your post, that the development freeze was announced in March 2019, not several years ago. You also stated that I am in constant contact with the team at Meridian and as soon as we have an official release we will post it.' This is a copy of an email from a customer in Norway, not an official post from either the factory or you, presumably the factory advised you before advising a customer via a dealer in Norway? So, I am to believe that after investing thousands of pounds into Sooloos, I receive the recommendation to migrate to Roon from a post from Norway not from the factory directly onto this forum or yourself, as promised earlier? Speechless Jon

Edd,
Meridian announced that they would stop further further development of Sooloos in March of 2019, just a little over a year ago. I like many people here on this forum certainly did not expect new features, i.e. "development", but I certainly expected a company that makes and markets a "luxury" product would not abandon their customers that not too long ago purchased MC200, MD600 and C15's, at well above average expense for a audio product. BMW, Jaeger, Apple and many manufactures of "Hi End" audio products would never treat their customers this way.
I'm very sad to say that this is the sort of thing a company whose principle owner is a Private Equity Firm would do. Their investors always come first, never the other stakeholders. This is not speculation on my part, I have too much personal experience in these matters than I would like to think about.

Hi Jon, We received the official email today, but it was published here before we could post it. However, it has been published. The site is not run by Meridian and Mr Tech Guy is a repair/service centre and dealer we have contact with our friends at Meridian as we are both ex-employees however we are independent and here to help you guys. You are correct March 2019 was the press release, it feels like longer. Apologies I should have checked. The Meridian factory is running a very slimmed-down staff because of the Social distancing and this will cause delays not an excuse for them but it is what it is. We are sad that the Tidal feature will no longer be supported however there are options to use your audio endpoints by moving over to Roon. You can still use Sooloos without tidal and the system will deliver the same audio quality as before. Tidal has changed a method of how passwords are handled and the systems cannot be updated anymore. The issue is complex as we believe the infrastructure to roll out an upgrade is no longer in place so this would require a major infrastructure update as well as producing the Sooloos build. If you contact your dealer then there are options, we are independent of Meridian and we can only pass on the information we receive. I am sorry you feel you have been let down that the information was sent from Norway. We will try harder next time but as the press release confirms it was the final release PRESS RELEASEEDIT: Last software for Sooloos was 24th November 2017 The software (v 2.538) Which is why I thought it was several years since the press release. Regards Edd

I understand why some might feel let down by Meridian, but this isn't Edd's fault. He is demonstrably trying to help us by supporting this site and I think the vast majority of us appreciate that the site is here.
[As an aside, I would say that he tried to give Meridian some time to publish an official response and they might have helped him by giving him enough notice to post their official response here before it filtered out]

this is the sort of thing a company whose principle owner is a Private Equity Firm would do Just for the record, Meridian hasn't been owned by a "private equity firm" for a very long time. I assume you are referring to Arnon Milchan's MUSE consortium? They sold to Richemont donkey's years ago. Approximately two years ago, Meridian was subject to a management buy-out. CEO John Buchanan is the majority shareholder.

Dear people, I have also invested a capital to buy a nice installation. I too am very disappointed in Meridian that they let us down. I have also experienced very major annoyances for some time. I too have unsuccessfully asked Meridian for help several times. I was also advised to transfer to Roon. So dear fellow Meridians, switch to Roon will cost a bit, but your installation will play like never before (even better) And stop annoying yourself. Conclusion of all this, Sooloos is dead!

Really disappointing although perhaps not surprising news. I can't help but feel let down by Meridian, the lack of support for Sooloos is hard to forgive after the level of investment made in the hardware. I could accept that there would not be new updates but I had hoped that existing functionality would be maintained.
I guess it's now a choice of moving to Roon or accepting the loss of Tidal.
By the time you factor in the cost of subscription to Tidal and Roon plus the investment in new hardware for Roon (I'd prefer a Nucleus if I went down that route) plus a new iPad for control i'm very tempted to stick with Sooloos until such time as Control:PC inevitably stops working.
I can buy at least a couple of albums a month at no increased net cost to my Tidal subscription and I'm lucky enough to have built up a decent library over many years. It's nice to have basically all recorded music at your fingertips with Tidal but it also means my listening habits have changed. I'm much more likely to Swim and jump around tracks compared to sitting down and listening to an album in full and to be honest i've missed giving an album repeated listens and letting it sink in.
Still leaves a very bad taste though, Meridian will no doubt lose customers over this.
Is there an easy way to delete all Tidal albums from my library?

Meridian's position illustrates why I don't like paying large sums for software. If I buy hardware then even when it is life expired (normally manufacturers have to give 5 years' notice) I may well be able to re-purpose it or at least salvage useful bits. Not so with software. Once the supplier chooses to drop support you are finished, even if you have some advanced skills, which I certainly lack, because the code may be unavailable to anyone.
Commercial litigation in Britain is horrendously expensive and class actions to share the cost, for reasons I do not understand, seem to be very rare indeed in English law. But, the USA is different.
Meridian were selling Sooloos kit as recently as 2016 (I bought some), possibly later. It is true that the Tidal problem is only a partial loss of functionality but how about you excellent US customers considering a class action suit against Meridian Americas so that it becomes worth Meridian's while to fix the problem - which I find it hard to believe would be a major programming effort - rather than just turning their backs on you/us?

The Sooloos support issue is no different to Meridian pulling support/service for their other products in recent times. I know from bitter experience regarding G Series (non) support.
At least Mr.TechGuy is offering MC200 owners the ability to modify their devices into a Roon Core for £250 - although he 'is not at liberty' to reveal exactly what the upgrade entails.
We don't know if the replacement electronics offers an Intel solution, or something else.
I appreciate that this would still require existing MC200 owners' spending more than this on buying a suitable end-point and a Roon license, but what other choice do you realistically have?

Hello
When my MC200 gave up the ghost and I switched to Roon it only cost the subscription, nothing else.
I installed the software on an Apple Mac Mini in our home office. It found the FLAC files that I'd saved and all the Meridian endpoints, plus a few other endpoints that I didn't even know were endpoints, and has worked flawlessly ever since.
The interface on a phone or tablet can be set up in a few minutes to look almost like Sooloos although with more and better functionality.
All software develops and moves on eventually becoming unsupported. I urge everyone who is doubting this to try the free download and see for themselves.

I committed to Sooloos before anyone had ever heard of TIDAL.
When TIDAL was added to Sooloos I saw it as a bonus feature not part of the core offering.
It is TIDAL, not Meridian, who have made the change ceasing the functionality.
My Sooloos system continues to work perfectly in line with the specification for which it was purchased.
If one is disappointed with the loss of TIDAL via Sooloos, perhaps one should take issue with TIDAL who are responsible for that loss?

Hi Gianni
I've never had Sooloos myself, but in light of the comments here, did look up the relevant dates for Meridian Sooloos and Tidal. There are Meridian Sooloos reviews from 2009, five years before Tidal was launched. I agree with you... Meridian are being beaten for loss of a bonus feature that Tidal themselves have taken away.
Cheers

The issue is 5 years. If I buy a new car which has features that were not incorporated when the model was first released then the 5 years is from when I bought it (new), not earlier. If Meridian had never incorporated Tidal then there would be no issue, but they did.
It must be a delight to be Meridian. Let past or even current customers down in all sorts of ways and they still leap to your defence. That requires great skill!

Meridian are being beaten for loss of a bonus feature that Tidal themselves have taken away. In today's environment, if you offer a software product that interoperates with other services or Internet infrastructure, you must accept that things change from time to time and respond accordingly. Look at the hoops that developers go through every time Apple releases a major version of iOS or macOS. It's not ideal, but it is the norm. TIDAL is not updating its login API on a whim: it has operational and/or business reasons for doing so. TIDAL is a Roon business partner and we were asked to make changes; which we did. Meridian has decided not to. I really don't think that this is TIDAL's problem. Bearing in mind that my company stands to make a small gain from this situation, I would have liked Meridian to have fixed this.

It’s never easy to accept that your once prized Meridian possession has been overtaken by advancing tech developments. I’m sure that many early generation iPad owners are not too pleased that their device doesn’t work with latest version of Roon. Those owners are not taking a class action lawsuit against Apple. As much as it would irritate me; if I owned an MC200, I’d be looking to mitigate my losses and sell it on eBay while I still can. That would then offset the cost of buying either an i3 or i5 NUC - both of which would be technically superior to an MC200. One option would be to buy into Roon. You wouldn’t regret it. Alternatively, install Windows on a NUC - and then install either Amarra Luxe or Audrivana for Windows. Both offer Tidal or Qobuz playback, if required, plus MQA first unfold. Then connect the NUC to your chosen DAC.

I own an MC200.
When I purchased it, I don’t think Tidal even existed, so I see it as a bonus that I was able to use Tidal integration for this long.....shame that it has now been taken away though.
I am currently trying out Roon on my laptop.
I am still using the MC200 as one of my endpoints in Roon.....so it’s not totally redundant😁
I still have to decide what to do next.
Convert MC200 (as read on here) and buy another endpoint or keep MC200 and use as just an endpoint and buy a NUC.
Just need to find out what’s best cost/sound wise.

Hi, a small clarification on this point ... Roon never ran on the older 32bit / Non-OpenGL iPad hardware platforms ... but I get the spirit of the statement. Regards, Carl

I think the lines between hardware being safe and software becoming outdated are becoming (unfortunately) somewhat blurred nowadays as most of the former is increasingly reliant on cloud-based software.
I bought a sleep monitor a few years back that relied on the cloud to work (although this was never clear from their sales patter). The hardware stopped working the minute they vanished. This is going to become an increasing problem - no longer will hardware or software continue working without the modern infrastructure it was designed to depend upon.
When your heating stops because it can no longer contact the supplier of your thermostat in the middle of the winter is when this will hit home as a bad idea.

Rhapsody/Napster is still active on Sooloos. It doesn't seem to have the same licensing churn that Tidal does, which has allowed me to replace Tidal albums in my Sooloos library after Tidal pulled them from their library.

I understand the disappointment of the loss of Tidal functionality with Sooloos. However the statement from Meridian that announced the end of Sooloos development should have been a warning for many that it was time to start considering migrating to a different platform.
I am sure the number of customers that bought Sooloos at retail because of Tidal integration is quite small and those few are the ones who should really be disappointed. The rest, myself included lost what was a free (on the Sooloos side) feature. I still prefer the simplicity of Sooloos for playing my ripped CD library.
Those who relied on Tidal for music enjoyment without a ripped library will suffer the most. There are still lots of alternatives to getting Tidal into your systems.

Install the TIDAL app on a PC then (i) out via USB (to a Meridian device with a USB input), (ii) via a USB-to-SPDIF converter, or (iii) via an Explorer 2 connected by stereo analogue

I think I'm going to stick with basic Sooloos for a bit longer. Meanwhile, to retain some Tidal MQA access (via Audirvana on my old Mac Mini), I was thinking about the iFi Nano iOne to act as a USB to digital converter and then into my 218. Any thought or alternative suggestions?

Like others I think this is really disappointing by Meridian. I previously had a G95, so should have learnt my lesson about Meridian commitment to customers then!!
I bought the MC200 (and AC200 and M6) to primarily play Tidal and control it through one app. As a temporary fix I am using an old Blusound streamer, but that means I have to separately control the AC200 and the streamer, and also have a drop in sound quality. I don’t want a Roon system (cost and inconvenience of running a separate computer unnecessarily), so advice welcome on the options that I have. The other rooms in the house have Naim systems, and the most obvious route is to use a Naim streamer. Views and advice would be really welcome.

A Meridian 210 will integrate well with your AC200.
Then, attach a USB HDD containing your music library to the UPnP (USB) input of the 210.
Download something like mcontrol for Android/iOS on the tablet of your choice for music playback - and for accessing Tidal/Qobuz.

Hi thanks for such a quick reply. That is really helpful. I have thought about the 210. My MC200 is only 18 months old, so I resent paying Meridian another £800, particularly if it is just storing up more expense later. I have Naim and Blusound systems and streamers that have all managed the Tidal change perfectly, without any issue at all, so feeling very disappointed by Meridian.

Mark, I feel the same way. Meridian will never see another $$$ from me. They were supposed to have a relationship with Roon. One would think they would have paid Roon to fix the Tidal log in problem. After all they (Roon) are the folks who developed Sooloos. But perhaps I'm wrong, after seeing how Meridian treat their customers they may have no relationship at all.

In some cases with recent retail Sooloos purchases such as the MC200 and Control:15, I have been told that the dealer and Meridian (at least over here) will provide assistance with the change over to Roon. This of course will be handled on a case by case basis as all situations will be unique. As most other endpoints can continue to be used with Roon, such assistance may not apply. Engage with the dealer that you purchased your equipment from to see how they can help.

What are the options I have using the following: 218 to DSP6000 24/96, QNAP TC251(Tidal Sooloos library-no ripped CD) I would like to keep using Sooloos if I still can use my Tidal library
I do not know what to do.
Thank you!

Just for information, and I appreciate that this mere fact is not of much help to many, but my Sooloos on my QNAP core continues to work with Tidal. If anyone who understands the changes that Tidal have made at a technical level has any observations or theories about what may explain this I would be most interested. Is it, perhaps, that my IP address has not changed and at least one of my several devices has always remained logged on to Tidal (which includes my Roon core as well as my Sooloos core)?

I don’t know for sure, but I suspect your music server has been given an authentication token that is still valid with Tidal...

Thank you for the response. I am sorry to say that concepts such as authentication tokens, how I get one and how easily I may irretrievably have one taken away are beyond me, but it sounds a bit risky. Any advice on how I can not inadvertently lose it?

It seems strange that only QNAP cores would receive a token and Sooloos cores wouldn't. My Tidal access has survived a reboot of the QNAP, however, my public IP address is assigned by my cable modem and hasn't changed in years. Not saying a token couldn't survive a reboot. I don't have anything else on my network that would be logged in to Tidal other than my QNAP. I suspect that sometime in the near future my luck will run out.

Quite! Though I do reboot my router occasionally (less than once a month, typically) and my QNAP is powered down automatically at night.

IIRC, the Tidal tokens are issued at login to Tidal and are valid for a set period of time (eg 1 month). All communications to Tidal require this token to work.
So your token will just expire one day with no warning and Tidal will stop working.
You may have 'renewed' your token just a day or two before they stopped this authentication method; hence it stop working for different people will be at different times.

The agony of the unknown. Forgive my ignorance of tokens, but if they depend on IP address then why would Sooloos stop and yet not a direct Tidal connection at the same address? And if it is some combination of IP address and MAC number, since MAC spoofing is rather easy that wouldn't protect Tidal's business well enough, I assume. I take it that there is something much more subtle going on to differentiate legitimate customers from fraudsters. How does it single out Sooloos kit from other things I own, and why?

Don't overthink the token. At its very basic level, it's little more than a server generated proxy for username and password, often with a time expiry and access rights.
So you login using username/password, the server then generates the token normally with a date validity range and set of capabilities that you can undertake - such as what version of Tidal you can use. From then on, you perform your requests using the token (it doesn't matter where from, it's long/complex enough to include anti spoofing checks) and all the while that token is valid for the request that you make, you get that service.
At some point, that token will time expire (it may even be rescinded), at which point, often transparently to the user, a new token will be generated using username/password. It's much more efficient to pass a token around with every operation than to keep logging in.

Just came across this post regarding NAS and Roon by our CTO Brian Luczkiewicz: https://community.roonlabs.com/t/my-experiences-with-rock-and-a-500k-tracks-library/27385/29

It seems longer, but it has only been a month since this issue was first reported on the Forum. I will submit a post if I lose Tidal with Sooloos.

I see several others managed to respond before me. Unfortunately, I’m sorry to say, the token will be timed to expire at some point. I just don’t know when.

Roon crapped out on me a couple of days ago apparently with it logging me into Tidal. I had to log into Tidal manually then go back to Roon. I then found that a Roon update was available to resolve some Tidal issue although my Roon core updater had got stuck several versions back so wasn't taking updates so needed a helping hand. All resolved now after rebooting core.
But this highlights 2 things - Tidal has been tinkering with its login process and Roon can respond to third party changes in a timely manner, even if my core updater couldn't. Tidal ceasing to work on Sooloos is just a matter of time. Thankfully its ability to play users libraries still hasn't changed. The writing had been on the wall for Sooloos since 2014, so it's done well to have lasted much longer than that.

I downloaded a free trial version of Audirvana this weekend. I am using my MacBook Pro connected via USB to the 818v3 and using the Audirvana remote app to control Tidal on my iPad from the listening position.
So far, it is running really fast, easy to use and was simple to get up and running really quickly. Audirvana recognized the 818 without issue.

Does anyone have problems adding certain Tidal albums to the library?
Just noticed the issue this week, there's no error message, but certain Tidal albums won't add to the Sooloos library. The issue is with new release as well as older titles. The same albums were added to my Roon library with no issues.

For most, Tidal and Sooloos are completely broken. If yours is working at all, you are one of the lucky few. There is no fix for it at this time. Sooloos development was frozen last year. Unless someone hacks in and can successfully fix it.

I’ve experienced the same problem. For about a week, I have noticed I can add some Tidal albums to my Sooloos library but not others. I can play the tracks of the albums I can’t add.
I contacted Tidal, which referred me to Meridian.

Since yesterday each time I try to use Mconnect to play tidal from iPhone to 210 to DSP’s the mconnect app asks me to sign in to tidal and then displays ‘invalid token’. I have restarted everything, reset my tidal password etc. all to no avail. I have contacted tidal.
Anyone else having this problem or have a solution?

Hi All,
I know this has been covered on numerous occasions and I have myself more or less migrated to Roon, but I'm curious as if anyone has an answer to the following:
- MC200 used as Sooloos core = No Tidal support - Control:10 used as Sooloos core = Full Tidal support.
Is this due to me missing a software update on the Control:10?
Thanks

Hi Brytech, Jeremy's answer to a similar question is most likely ... eventually the token on your C10 will also expire and when it does that's it for Tidal on that core. I don’t know for sure, but I suspect your music server has been given an authentication token that is still valid with Tidal...

The Tidal issue is getting worse. I've been having problem adding some albums, but I can still play them. As of today many Tidal albums have no tracks under the title and it's unable to search for artists using the Sooloos desktop and iOS Apps, e.g. I tried to search for Fleetwood Mac & got massage that says "No Results". I'm running Sooloos Core on my QNAP NAS. I still have 1 working C15, not sure if making it the Core will make a difference?
I've invested significant time and money on my Meridian/Sooloos system & library. It's a shame that Meridian abandoned their Sooloos customers.

I'm also using a QNAP for my core. I use Control:PC for my interface and it's been a couple of months since I could add a Tidal album to my library. The search function for Tidal still works and I can listen to the tracks, but I no longer get album cover art. I can create Sooloos playlists with Tidal tracks in them and they play fine. The Tidal albums I had added to my library in the past still play and retain the album cover art. My work-around is to add a Tidal album to my Play queue and then create a Playlist.
As an added note, I removed Tidal from Control:PC just to see if I could sign back in. I waited a week and was able to sign back in with no problem.

It appears Tidal on Sooloos is broken now, all the new albums & playlists have no tracks under the title, have not been able to add new albums to Sooloos, though I can still play most albums that are already in the library.
Is there a manual way to add the Tidal hyperlink to the Sooloos library?

Same here. I noticed it the other day when I was searching for albums and the majority came up empty. I have a pretty small CD collection so I relied heavily on Tidal. It's a small disappointment, but technology moves on and Meridian wasn't making a dime from me with their updates. I may give in and try Roon just to not lose the investment I have in Sooloos endpoints, though I will miss the simple standard interface that the Sooloos system has.

I've been running Roon on Nucleus+, all my Meridian endpoints still work. Roon is not without bugs, but the latest update cleaned up most of the issues.
Roon's user interface is good and has the same functions for all platforms (OSX, iOS and iPadOS), works kind of like a web browser. I do like the simplicity of the Meridian Sooloos iOS App for casual listening. I'm mainly using Roon with the Devialet D250 PRO for 2Ch, the Roon Ready integration works great with the Devialet; and Meridian Sooloos for whole house audio & background music. I may end up using the Meridian less and less since I can no longer add new titles from Tidal.
Personally I think it's a huge strategic mistake for Meridian to abandon Sooloos and not being able to monetize the IP & keep the talents that left started Roon. If I were to build my music server/streamer system today, I'd have no reason to buy any Meridian products with Roon.

I believe many Sooloos lovers are angry with Meridian's choice to abandon Sooloos. Meridian did not take into consideration that we owners of their system spent much money to buy it. I believe that a famous brand like Meridian cannot leave its customers on the street. I would propose to launch a petition urging Meridian to provide support for their end-of-life products. What do you think about it?

Such a petition is highly unlikely to have any effect on Meridian.
I imagine that the Sooloos intellectual property rights reside with Roon.

What follows is a quote, gathered 2 minutes ago, from Tidal's support part of their website:
"Meridian TIDAL support is available in Sooloos systems running system versions greater than 435. Versions of the Core Control iPad app greater than 2.104 are recommended for use with TIDAL. Sooloos systems that are connected to the internet automatically download the latest available version of the system firmware and will display a message saying that an update is available.
You can check whether you are running a compatible firmware version as follows via Control Fifteen, Control Ten or Control One:
Touch the home icon in the top right hand corner of the screen. A menu will appear showing the following options: Touch the Information entry in the window obtained in step 1. A new window will appear showing system information:The version number is shown under System Statistics as highlighted in the screenshot above. Open Control:PC or Control Mac and select the Settings tab. Select Information in the Other Settings section of the Settings tab and a pop-up window will appear showing system information.
Using Control:Web:
Open a browser using the IP address of the system core. The browser will show the Control:Web interface: Select the Settings tab, then Information in the Other Settings section of the Settings tab. A pop-up will appear showing information about the system.
To set up TIDAL from a Control Fifteen, Control Ten or Control One, check that your Sooloos is running a compatible system version using the steps given in ‘How to obtain support for TIDAL in Sooloos’. Touch the home icon in the top right hand corner of the screen, select System Settings, click the Accounts tab on the System Settings window opened and select + Add Account.
Choose + Add Account, then TIDAL Account. Enter the Username and Password using the keyboard displayed. Click on the red cross on the keyboard window when done.Click Save on the Account Setup window when both the username and password have been entered.
Touch the check mark above OK to acknowledge the message and return to the main Sooloos window. Touch Explore on the main window. The Explore Music window will open showing TIDAL in the left hand Explore column. Touching TIDAL in the Explore column will show a TIDAL column that should contain My Library at the bottom once login has been successful.
To set up TIDAL from Control:PC or Control Mac, open Control:PC or Control Mac, select the Settings tab, then Accounts in the Other Settings section.
A pop-up will appear showing the list of accounts, select Add TIDAL Account in on the pop-up and enter your TIDAL username and password.
Close the Accounts pop-up and select the Play tab. The Explorer will be shown with an entry for TIDAL in the left hand Explore column. Selecting TIDAL in the Explore column will show a TIDAL column that should contain My Library at the bottom once login has been successful: To set up TIDAL from WebClient, open a browser using the IP address of the system core and select Accounts in the Other Settings section of the Settings tab. select Add TIDAL Account in on the pop-up and enter your TIDAL username and password. If you are unable to log in with your TIDAL username and password please check that the system has correctly recorded your username and password in the Accounts windows or that the Sooloos system is connected to a network that has access to the internet for http and https through ports 80 and 443."
Given all the problems some people have been having with Sooloos and Tidal, which has driven many to Roon, I find the above current advice fascinating.

What do you think about it? I hear you and definitely share your frustration. However, I don't think a petition will get you very far. Many of us have already moved on - a lot probably onto Roon, I've moved to Audirvana, maybe others moved onto something else. Unfortunately, it seems that ship has sailed, and not sure Meridian will do anything about it. It is a pity and very disappointing.

Just plugged in my MC200 for 1st time in 2 year and it's not working. No software update coming through. Fixed this 2 years ago and then not used.
Is it not possible to login to Tidal anymore for MQA access? Was Meridian being be charged money for software access?
If I moved to Roon could the same happen there?

Hi,
If you read back through this thread, you’ll see that due to some changes in Tidal, the access via Sooloos was lost. You should still have access to what you have stored on the MC200. There were some issues with ripping material onto Sooloos as well but that seems to be available again.

If I moved to Roon could the same happen there? When Tidal changed the login / access method (to tighten it security), Sooloos was stuck in stone and is effectively locked out now, however, Roon evolved. Roon being primarily a subscription service needs to stay current in order to retain its income stream. On the other hand with Meridian the fees where all paid up front (purchase of the unit) ... so not much incentive to maintain the software properly in the long term. Of course past performance in no indication of future... but I think you will be "safer" with Roon. Regards, Carl

Are people still worried about buying lifetime Roon membership and then roon being bought out and all lifetime membership cancelled?

I certainly am. That is the trouble with much modern technology. I have 2 iPad Minis, both in perfect condition cosmetically (and I have the original packing etc) and working perfectly electronically, but they are originals from 2012. Because Apple have chosen to make them obsolescent (I can't even download now many of the apps that used to work with their now dated architecture) they are of little value now. In contrast, I have reel to reel tape recorders (a hobby of mine) that I have kept in perfect working order from over 50 years ago (and they still sound good too) and I continue to be able to do so because the technology is simple enough for me to understand and I own everything needed to make them work - unlike software based things where the software is impenetrable (at least for me).
There are enthusiasts for Roon on this forum (I do have Roon by the way) but quite a few were beta testers or got in early and did not pay anything like the current price for lifetime membership. There is even a senior member of this forum who is also a senior member of the Roon forum. They would be unusual people if they did not have a more comfortable view of Roon than a newcomer or someone who has not yet committed to it.

Been there, seen it, done it.
Like many others here I was forced to walk the Sooloos plank, after paying many times for Meridian Sooloos hardware, however I was not long between between the devil and the deep blue sea.
Roon lifetime subscription plus Tidal hi-res subscription is all I need. Cost is immaterial! Concentrate on value.
I have access to all the music, also MQA releases, that I could ever need, whatever the frequency and bit depth advertised. Let your ears and brain tell the truth.

I’m appalled that I can’t buy any more 78’s for my wind-up gramophone (I do own own one). I can’t run the latest MacOS operating system on my 7 year-old Mac Mini. Many of my apps no longer work, due to OS developments. That’s life. Technology advancements develop at a startling rate. A pragmatic attitude to moving on regarding such issues is advisable.

Hi Hector and all
Indeed it’s the Tidal Sooloos thing that drove me back here to seek aid ! I used to main Sooloos for Tidal into my 818/5200s and Tidal no longer works. So I lost most of my MQA access. I’ve plugged a generic Bluetooth receiver to the 818 to play Tidal from my iPad but it’s FLAC and not MQA. Still good SQ though.
I needed help to assess if I went Room Nucleus plus can I get Tidal MQA into my 818 for full decoding? If so what is the source of Tidal? Is it Nucleus itself or I have to connect via iPad? What’s the hardware connection between Nucleus and the 818, is it a LAN cable?
Besides this option Nav and I were talking about Tidal into 818 via USB, would this allow MQA steaming and full decode? If this is an option then I might needn’t have the Nucleus.
So basically I guess my question is without Sooloos how do I get tidal MQA into my 818 for full decode?
Many thanks as always for the expert advice from you all here.
Best /bt

Tidal finally stopped working on my QNAP based Sooloos a couple of weeks ago. The albums that I had imported to my library started coming up as "not available for streaming".

Hi,
I imported the new Adele CD onto my MD600 last week via Control:Mac, so still hanging in there.
Less fuss than Roon.
