I think this may actually hit dealers and trade-in customers more than non-SE owners as it limits the ability of the dealer to "add value" to used gear. This was my thought also. Not great.

We’ve been working on remodel plans. Once done, a main system speaker upgrade is something I hope to do. I had been thinking about used DSP8000’s with an SE upgrade down the road when funds allowed. There are so many great used analog speaker options, such as the Ultima2 Salon2’s just mentioned, so I was on the fence anyhow. Given that the option is off the table of SE upgrade in my timetable, I’m eliminating Meridian DSP’s from consideration. Ian, I started out my Meridian journey with a new 561 as my first piece of gear with Aragon 4004 and 8008, Martin Logans 5 channel. I loved the open air sound, but kept playing the amp / wire game and just kept getting more frustrated until I traded all the amps, wires, and Logans in on 5 DSP5000’s and everything smoothed out to my ears and I still cannot find a smoother more accurate sound especially in stereo or trifled than my M kit. I hate to compare, but Meridian is almost like Apple. It is really good and it works seamlessly together for a really long time. That 561 was purchased somewhere around 1996, never had a single issue. It still works as new. Marc Koval took it with him on his last trip. I believe it is a great time for people that have always wanted Meridian products to pick up gear, or in my case upgrade DSP. Meridian should extend the deadline and give the dealers a better cost for improved margin or negotiation room for the SE upgrade as it makes a world of difference. My two cents, Meridian needs an increase in customer base on the high end of this ever shrinking market to make the name more valuable, take lessons learned and turn out quality lesser portable product for the masses as phone and television accessories. Keep your clients happy and they will always promote the brand.

I agree. I listen to music through this system and think, why isn't there more interest in Meridian? I understand the prices new, and their margins make them a pretty exclusive club already, a club more interested in prestige than sound I think, But Meridian can only thank themselves for that. No hotel room at axpona the last couple years I went meanwhile ATC and bryston were showing off their active vs passive speakers and Kii3 had a nice room, but nothing from M!
