The upgrade took a couple of mins I suppose, it took me longer to download and open the Manager program.
Your experience had me slightly nervous about doing it but thought, I’d take one for the team.
A couple of relay Click perhaps and a slight response delay to the input after the programme reported update complete. Everything normal now.
Windows 10 HP laptop, wired to my network.
No 18 in the Hall of fame I have simple tastes; I am content to settle for the best: GIK monster bass panels, rear wall. QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into DSP5200SE via 210/ 218 zone... Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2, Mini & Flex. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos. MS200 to F80 for a Roon zone
I just did another attempt. Now with a Windows 7 Pro laptop connected by wire with. It is just the same as by my desktop computer.
The 218 isn't visible in the Device Manager, once in a while it flashes up and shows firmware 1 and then it's gone. The relay starting clicking again and no further thing happen.
UPDATE:
I have tried loading the firmware from a desktop thru the router and that didn't work. Then I tried using a laptop, wired to the same switch the 218 was on. That didn't work either.
I wired my laptop directly into the 218 and then it did the upload in seconds and everything went well.
I don't use any anti-virus on that machine and Windows Firewall is off.
Edit: I should clarify that the program discovers all 4 endpoints (ID41, 218, 2x MS200). Yes, discovery may use different ports than for the update process.

Ok, worth a try. I am not quite sure why the solution above worked but as you are caught between ‘a rock and a hard place’ it may be worth trying? Maybe the discovery being successful downloads the update to the PC but then the update process fails, direct connection between PC and device circumvents the block?
Just updated my ID41... All appears to be working. I suppose MQA was to much to hope for !!

861v8+ID41, DSP8000, DSP5200HC, DSP5200, HD621, Lumagen Radiance XD, Panasonic TH50VX100, Dune 3.0. All controlled via Philips Pronto 9600 & iPad 3. (Living room). MS200, DSP320's speakers (Kitchen). Roon server on i7 Sonictransport supplying the 861,MS200 and a couple of SB touch. Explorer for my Mac Pro.
Waaaay too little horsepower on that card, unfortunately.
Edit: But also, knowing Meridian, if they wanted to add MQA decoding to the 861, they would want to do it for all inputs. Which probably means a dedicated MQA card.
