Updated both my 218 and my 818v3, no problems and all working well...and the IP Control now also works with my 818, the web interface has a new design...
I installed Meridian Device Manager from the given link. When I open it, all I see listed is ControlPC. I only have one network at home, and the Rock and QNAP with music stored on it appear in Windows Network. The network router is an Apple AirPort with an unmanaged switch and AirPort bridge.

I applied some pending Windows updates and was prompted to unblock soolooshelper.exe etc. They had been unblocked previously, so I don't know how they became blocked again.
After this, the ID41 was listed and appeared to update fine. The 218 has not appeared though. It is on the other side of the bridge, but same network.

No joy irrespective of browser/OS combination (Safari, Chrome, Opera, Firefox, Edge all tried). Some say it "refused to connect", some that it "dropped the connection". Switching off/on the 218 several times and unfortunately no difference.
Device manager shows Device build: 216 - which is a little strange given the original post in this thread...

Thanks Rick for the info and MDM software link. Updated my ID41 card relatively easily and quickly. Continue to not hold my breath for MQA in even 2 channels or a dedicated full channel "ID42" version.
FWIW for Mac users: I use a Mac (10.15.3) with Parallels (Version 15.1.2 (47123)) and had to create a "Host-only Network" connection otherwise MDM did not communicate with any of my Meridan endpoints. I normally use the recommended Shared Network option. In working out why MDM did not see my endpoints (ID41 + MC600 endpoints), I turned off the Windows (Win 10) Defender Firewall and my Mac anti-virus software and firewall - that made no difference. So connected my MBP to via ethernet cable and created a Host-Only Network rather than a Shared Network (via wifi connection). MDM recognised endpoints and as advertised auto updated firmware. Once the firmware update finished, I switched the firewalls and anti-virus apps back on and MDM continued to communicate with my endpoints. Strange that the Parallels network connection type is a problem - or at least for me.

I have now had a chance to try again updating my 218 with the invaluable benefit from others' experience updating theirs. In particular, I knew that the interface looked like Sooloos Configure, that 'Loading' would appear (like it always did with Sooloos Configure when absolutely nothing would happen) and that the process could take a while. I did not need to re-install the new Device Manage software, I did need to make it as a new exception in my Firewall settings and I did need to try three times (different lights on the 218 lit up and eventually all the lights lit up in white). The first time I checked whether the update had worked no changes showed on the interface, but after closing Meridian Device Manager and restarting (with some more activity evident from clicking and lights on the 218) the new firmware showed up, eventually.
So, because of zero helpful feedback from the updating process, there is plenty of room for operator error/impatience. Self critical behaviour and persistence, with a willingness to try, try and try again (patiently and not changing too many variables simultaneously) are needed. The new interface looks more polished but doesn't seem to offer anything new. I have not yet done further testing.
Not having a status bar to show the progress of the update does seem to be a poor choice, a blank screen and a wait and see approach is not very user friendly.
Can I step back a moment and ask if it’s worth the hassle to do this upgrade for a 218 and id41 feeding 5200SEs from a Roon core? The release notes don’t get me excited.
