7200SE Graphite Clamp rings showing!

FWIW, I have 7200.2 in graphite - it’s a great colour which grows on you over time. Originally I didn’t have much of a choice as they were bought second-hand, but I’ve come to really like them. I don’t like the Meridian piano black at all, which I find very harsh, graphite has just the right amount of smoothness which suits their lines, but still looks sharp (it is a Ferrari colour after all - Ferrari Grigio Silverstone 159650/740 Ref. 422 4YYDB)!

Thanks yes I have the 5200.2 in graphite, I’m trying to get a photo of the SEs with the drive unit covers on to see how the silver rings look with the colour.

My mistake, I thought you were trying to see the clamp rings (with driver covers off).

It's possible that the pics Ratbert linked to are graphite - the driver covers are darker than the paint - if you look at black ones, the paint is usually darker than the driver covers (as in the banner pic at the top of the same page). Hard to tell though...

It will depend on the light the photographs were taken in, only way to be sure is to arrange to go and see some.
The chrome rings look like... chrome, the look is ok, not enough to make me want them if I didn’t have them but equally not enough to put me off purchasing if I wanted factory SE’s rather than upgrades.

If you intend to purchase factory SEs new, I believe it is possible to specify black clamp rings. No idea how much that would cost.

Absolutely, hence my question to see if I like the way the speakers look in graphite with the silver rings. I was hoping someone could share some images. The cost for black rings appears to be quite high.

I thought the whole idea of SE was those silver looking rings? grin

Is the effect on sound quality quite subtle on the 7200 and 8000 in terms of the SE clamp rings (due to Meridium construction and don't they essentially have clamp rings anyway, you just can't see them on non-SE) or am I mistaken?

I've heard 5200 upgrade vs 5200SE from factory and the difference was definitely there, but they're not Meridium...

What you see on the SE speaker outside of the grille is a slightly larger edge on the driver basket that has been polished. . The clamp rings, at least on the 7200 and 8000 are the same or very similar save the polish that they have always had. Whether or not the extra couple of millimeters of basket edge is audible is up to the listener.

818v3 finally arrived, updated firmware (was a long time on a boat) and updated firmware on 8kSE's as well....

What can I say? As usual not too great at explaining but let me just say I'm very very happy with the changes smile

Wonderful, subtle, and just a "really nice" set of changes. Defo a wonderful upgrade to an already great system.

Simple, clean, perfect two channel set up.

Happy in Africa!

Amazing setup, amazing setting!

Wonderful and subtle are definitely two of the words which spring to mind when describing the kind of difference the 818 brings to the party.

What were you feeding the 8KSE with previously, a 218?

Originally from my first purchase when I had one room only I had an 861v8 into them. It was one Cinema set up then and just listened to the 8k's in 2 channel.
Then in new house ended up with 2 channel room and cinema, so 861 went in the cinema.

The last few weeks I've been running the 8k's with an MS200 so quite a step up from the last connection!

Will get Cinema room photo's done now 861 and DSW are in there.
