Hi All
Having moved house we are just trying to get the system up and running again and are struggling to get comms/sound working.
The system is Legacy DSP8000 L/R; DSP7200HC (SpeakerLink) and DSP5500 Rears.
We have AC12 boxes for the L/R/Rears with comms daisy chawed from each box , Master Comms to the lefts and Slave to the Rights from the 2 AC12 Boxes. The Centre is Cat5 from the SpeakerLink output of the 861 to the Master side.
If I enable controller on the centre it also turns on the left front but not the 861. If I make the 861 controller only the 861 comes on (and HD621).
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks Adam

Hi Adam,
Which speaker is designated as Master in the system? i.e. which one has a red led on it in standby? (Generally the centre or the front left speaker)
Assuming your system was all working fine before the move, please don't start 'typing' or reconfiguring anything. That won't be necessary, this should just be a cabling issue. But do let us know if you have typed or tried to reset anything!
Rick

Hi Rick
Unfortunately started to reset and retyped the speakers!!!
Also a new laptop so did not ave the original msl file for the 861.
The centre is set as Master in both the speaker and the program. If it is on there is sound through the centre during calibration but not the other speakers. But no comms control.
Centre connected to master output for SL on 861 others connected to the AC12 via the SLave outputs.
Adam

I may be remembering things wrong, but don't you need a slave return from the Master speaker back to the processor??
That's probably why only the centre speaker is turning on. There is no link back to turn the slaves on.
Hope that makes sense...
Cheers,
Steve

You need a comms return from the center channel to one of the other speakers. A BNC cable from the center back to one of the AC12 should fix you up.

Hi All
Thanks for all the replies. I am pretty sure (but could be wrong) that previously the centre was wired from the SpeakerLink Master and the AC12's from the SpeakerLink Slave's. There was no other comms connections other from the AC12 to the speakers then from one speaker to the next.
Do the SpeakerLink connections not connect the comms back to the processor or should I connect a SpeakerLink out from the centre back to the lsave SpeakerLink on the processor?

Centre connected to master output for SL on 861 others connected to the AC12 via the SLave outputs Hi Adam, You don't need the Slave comms return from the centre speaker (as others suggest), that is handled in the SpeakerLink cable between 861 and Master speaker. Can you describe how you have AC12s cabled? Rather confusingly the Din Comms cable from the AC12 to the legacy speaker needs to come from the 'Master' socket on the AC12, not the 'Slave' as you might expect. (Although it is actually Slave Comms!) Rick

Hi Rick
I have just tried the following
Master L/R Speakerlink to AC12 to Left Speaker BNC to Comms Customer cable Slave L/R Speakerlink to Second AC12 for Front Right BNC to Comms customer cable Slave SpeakerLink Centre for Centre
In this configuration with 861 as controller I have 861 on with remote which turns on the Left Front but nothing else.
This is the configuration I had in the old ouse with one AC12 doing the rears. I have not connected those yet as wanted to get the front 3 going. There would be one additional AC12 for the rears.
If change the Centre to be master that works alone and no sound to L/R only centre.
I can only think something has gone awry with the BNC to Comms cables during the move as it is definitely Comms related and all worked with old wiring through the walls but have even tried long direct cables and tested all Cat6 cabling.
Thanks
Adam

I have also just tried (which I believe is unconventional and probably wrong):
SpeakerLink LR Master to Left Front SpeakerLink LR Slave to Right Front SpeakerLink C/Sub Master to centre SL and centre set as master
With this configuration all turns on and off and volume control work with 861 as controller (I believe looking at it this is how it was before) but still not (or very little sound) through L/R on calibration but Centre OK.

I have all legacy DSPs and I found this Technical Note very useful: TN031 - Integrating a Speakerlink controller into a non-speakerlink digital theater Hope that has something new for you. I should add that I do have a 511 for comms. I found it telling that although the AC12 supposedly handles comms, this TN doesn't use it except on the master. And then there's this, which might explain the TN and your issues: AC12 M5 lead modification . This says that this is required for Diagram 5 in the AC12 Manual "5. Multichannel SpeakerLink to non-SpeakerLink slave loudspeakers and SpeakerLink master"

OMG, this is now driving me nuts... I now have sound but now I can have the centre as controller and the speakers turn on together but do not turn the 861 on.
If I have the 861 as Controller it does not turn on the speakers.
If Speakers on and 861 turned on separately then I do get sound for calibration. Must be comms somewhere.
Even if I only connect Centre to 861 as master then they do not turn each other on.
