As a Roon employee, I'd rather that people kept their annual subscription... which was what this was all about smile

Thanks for your support!

Well I want to protest this decision, so I shall buy a $699 lifetime license. 🤣

What’s wrong when I change from my annual description to a lifetime subscription?
So Roon get the money NOW and don’t have to wait seven years to get the same ammount of money?

Roon need to build an income stream to account for future ongoing costs. This is the reason a lifetime license will not be available at some point.
On the plus side, Roon will have to work hard to stay credible to keep those very customers. This is a win/win situation as I see it.

The fact that they even had a lifetime licence at all and it’s still here, although more expensive, is a sign of good faith. They could have just pulled it complete. So, it’s decision time people...

No 18 in the Hall of fame smile I have simple tastes; I am content to settle for the best:
GIK monster bass panels, rear wall. QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into DSP5200SE via 210/ 218 zone... Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2, Mini & Flex. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos. MS200 to F80 for a Roon zone

True, but we don’t need it now any more, we are in this for the long run, and in 6 (not 7) years times, our income from you drops off a cliff. It’s about long-term prudent financial planning, not immediate cashflow.

Thanks entirely to Ratbert of this parish, who helped me to set up a HD etc.
I recently bought a lifetime subscription to Roon (just before the price increase...) and am enjoying it very much.
Sure, I'm glad I got it for $499 rather than $699 but if I was in the market then the extra $200 wouldn't put me off.

I wish VK & the larger company all the best.

I do think Roon are missing a trick not allowing monthly subs, I think so many people would have a go at $10 a month, and end up sticking with it.
In fact, do it as an annual sub, but one that can be paid over 12 months, I bet when it came to the end of the sub those cancelling would be incredibly low.
It's only $10 a month, why would you cancel?

Or even do it so it is $30 every quarter.

People just don't care about $10 or $30, where as $120 and $700 is a very different prospect, especially to 'have a go' with something.

No Darling, I've had it months!

Maybe, but monthly is the way to get people onboard. It is amazing how many are happy to pay a monthly fee but not yearly. This has been proved time and time again. There is a reason Netflix, Amazon, Spotify, Tidal etc. etc. all have monthly payments, same reason new cars sales are 96% on monthly PCP/lease/hire purchase etc.

Setting up a monthly automatic payment/subscription is pretty easy. A day or two work at most and sort of looks after itself in regard to customers joining/leaving etc. so must be another reason imho.
