I was going to buy this for myself for xmas (my first year expires in December), and a 1 year for my brother. I was quite upset that we didn't get an email warning us of the price increase. The COO provides an excellent rationalization of their thinking. The only part they missed is that I am not a robot, and so I found it to be rude. Their rationalization missed the fact that people aren't rational. I was a loyal Roon customer. Now I am just a Roon customer, and if something else comes along I will try it, and take the time to move, even if it is only as good as Roon. I am irrational. I will continue to use products that I am loyal to (like Ford) even though there might be a more rational alternative (a Camaro ZL1 or C8). I will now treat Roon as they have treated me. This is just a rational transactional relationship.
Sure, if they offered me the $499 price, they'd get less money over the long term. But now they did this, they may get even less. Apple, Amazon, Bluesound, Tidal, this is a competitive space, so my subscription lapsing isn't a stretch. Certainly, I'm not talking about how great Roon is any more, and I'm not buying my Brother a year for xmas.
I need an apology from Roon, and for them to reinstate the $499 pricing for a few months (for anyone). That would earn my trust. But trust literally didn't figure in their rationalization, so not holding my breath.
