The outside may be wrinkled (I gave up ironing when I retired), but I hope the inside is still young at heart and open to, new to me, experiences of high value audio.
Honesty and Value is what I expect so no OUCH experienced.

Just for an exercise in all-things-relative....

Sky TV what per month = ?
SKY Sports alone is £30/mth

Phone/Broadband = ?
Basic broadband is about £25/mth

Anti-Virus software = ?
Norton360 and McAfee are about £90 per year;

Coffee at work = ?
2 per day @ £5 x 5 x 40weeks in the office = £1000!!!

CD's purchased per month (back when folks did that) = ?
I used to buy average about 5 per month = 40 per month = £480 per year

Office 365 = £6/month for 1 user

Photoshop = £10/month

So, IMHO the monthly cost of annual Roon is not remarkable in the context of the above examples.

Yes Nick, it is good to have a true perspective. The real losers today are the artists we revere and we were prepared to pay for their recordings, at a much higher relative price in the distant past. Youngsters today (anyone under the age of 65) arguing about the cost of software/hardware don't know how lucky they are.

Indeed... on “another forum” a chap is posting a belly full of moan about the $200 price increase because he is currently not working and was too busy to get his lifetime sorted out... because he was setting up a pair of Meridian DSP speakers.

Go figure that out !!

The price increase caught me totally off guard. I had planned to purchase a Lifetime Sub in February upon the expiration of my current sub. Oh well, so is life.

Sounds like the annual subscription would be best for you to me. For around the price of a few beers Starbucks (other beverages are available) per month, you can spread the load and if anything changes in 6 years you have not wasted your money.

I was going to buy this for myself for xmas (my first year expires in December), and a 1 year for my brother. I was quite upset that we didn't get an email warning us of the price increase. The COO provides an excellent rationalization of their thinking. The only part they missed is that I am not a robot, and so I found it to be rude. Their rationalization missed the fact that people aren't rational. I was a loyal Roon customer. Now I am just a Roon customer, and if something else comes along I will try it, and take the time to move, even if it is only as good as Roon. I am irrational. I will continue to use products that I am loyal to (like Ford) even though there might be a more rational alternative (a Camaro ZL1 or C8). I will now treat Roon as they have treated me. This is just a rational transactional relationship.

Sure, if they offered me the $499 price, they'd get less money over the long term. But now they did this, they may get even less. Apple, Amazon, Bluesound, Tidal, this is a competitive space, so my subscription lapsing isn't a stretch. Certainly, I'm not talking about how great Roon is any more, and I'm not buying my Brother a year for xmas.

I need an apology from Roon, and for them to reinstate the $499 pricing for a few months (for anyone). That would earn my trust. But trust literally didn't figure in their rationalization, so not holding my breath.

It is just a business decision, and it seems to me they don't do this for greed, but for survival.

I really wonder where the over-blown sense of entitlement comes from these days.
