Thanks for the info Bruce. Do we know what is the minimum serial # for 8000.2? I'm trying to figure out if my speakers are .2 or not.

When you turn them on with the mains switches what do they report they are in their displays?

For the benefit of the forum ...

If your speaker does not say DSPXXXX.2 when you first power it on from the back panel switch and the tweeter does not have just the M logo on it at the 6 o'clock position, it is not a .2.

As such, we cannot make any guarantees of suitability or performance. We recommend using these models with the latest firmware for this generation of speakers, v1.40 ....
This is also mis-information...

I agree the .1 Legacy Speakers (if the speaker doesn't have a SpeakerLink connection) for DSP5200 and DSP8000 latest firmware is v1.40. However for the SpeakerLink versions of the DSP5200, DSP8000 and DSP7200 latest firmware is v2.63

To conclude, the most recent versions of firmware.
Now discontinued models:
DSP5200 and DSP8000 Legacy (.1 non-SpeakerLink) should be runnig v1.40
DSP5200, DSP7200 and DSP8000 SpeakerLink should have v2.63

Currently available models:
DSP5200.2, DSP7200.2 and DSP8000.2 should have v3.16, this latest release
DSP5200SE, DSP7200SE and DSP8000SE should have v3.16, this latest release

You are correct that the SpeakerLink latest firmware versions are 2.63.

The information I posted was cut and pasted directly from an email I received where I asked specifically about 3.16 and SpeakerLink versions of the 5200 and 8000 as well as the original 7200.

I would suggest that you reload them with 2.63. If your speakers did not display "DSP8000.2" on the display when powered on from the panel switch before you did the upgrade, they are not a .2 version for which the 3.16 firmware is intended.

As the 8000.2 was released about the same time as the SE in 2014, I would imagine that true 8000.2's are pretty rare in the wild. The 5200.2 on the other hand is common here in the US.

My personal 8000's were SL versions and not .2 when I upgraded them to SE.

Anyone care to comment on SQ changes? Performance improvements, I’m all ears?

I have not taken the time to see about any SQ differences yet.

I have been trying to see about MQA from devices via SPDIF. So far the 218 connected via SPDIF to the 8000SE streaming MQA files indicates MQA on the speaker display. This is something you could not do before the firmware upgrade.

My very initial first impression is of a "crystalline" upper end where cymbals or drum skin sounds are more realistically metallic or membrane and hang around longer. Decay seems to be extended from the midrange up.

I am using Roon into an Allo DigiOne Signature endpoint (outputting SPDIF) into an AC11 which converts to SL over 75 feet of shielded ethernet cable to my DSP5200SEs. Note that there is no MHR encoding in this arrangement which (MHR) is said to reduce jitter. Speaker display shows "OFs" to indicate the final unfold.

I would think that reported sonic changes from 3.16 firmware will be minor for SE compared to .2 so we really need to hear from those people.
