When I used the G91 I was very pleased with the performance and almost sold my rears as although they made a noise it just didn't seem to be very often except on DVD-A. Now with a G68 I notice far more noise coming from the rears and having the benefit of watching the kids DVD's more than 50 times (Finding Nemo, Toy story, etc) each I am noticing sounds I've never heard before. Can this be the case as both are running in cinema mode so why would the G68 give more to the rears. It's not just a little bit as both my wife and I have commented on the vast differences between the two, stopping me from considering getting rid of the rears. It's now an 800V3 into a G68. Is it me? I had the G91 set up correctley and calibrated as it should be so why the difference or am I just going mad?

The only reason I can think of is that the G68 does upsampling in multichannel mode, the G91 doesn't.

I haven't used a G91 in surround mode, so I can't compare it with a G68.

Buy one of those calibration DVD's and compare it (assuming you still have both).

You've changed two key items at the same time. The 800 is probably the best DVD player and the G68 has to be more capable when it comes to processing surround (with MRC and all the other subtelties of setup) than the G91. The G91 is an all-in-one box and whilst it is no doubt a great unit, spreading the various tasks across two great units should make it better. Upsampling will make a difference with movies also. I found that when I did the same with my 568.2. Details are better, rear dialogue is easier to follow etc. Even Sky+ now I have it at 96/24 into my DSP's is far better in the rear channels. So, all said, you've made many changes and all for the better. That's why it sounds better. Congratulations ![[Linked Image from softronix.com]](http://www.softronix.com/ubb/wink.gif) Rgds Nick

OK guys Now I'm totally confused about the issue of upsampling using G91/G68 hardware! I have set my G91 to Dig.preamp out,MHR, Internal decode and 96/24 set to 'yes' running 3 digital interconnects into my G68. Am I getting audio upsampling or not? and if not what must I change in order to get it?

I would imagine that you are getting upsampling....done in the G68. The G91 is decoding and passing the result to the processor to do that.

vast differences between the two Doesn't sound like upsampling to me. Sounds like the rears are now set at a higher level relative to the front soundstage.

Scrolling through the G68 with the Display button will show whether or not upsampling is happening. If the sampling rate is shown with an upper case K, its upsampled or already high speed.

Try shutting off the upsampling and I'll bet you still hear the effects.
All these units are in the stratosphere when it comes to hearing surround effects.

Thanks for the tip John
Scrolling with the display button on my G68 shows that output is 88K so am happy that I am achieving upsampled signal
