No. Roon facilitates this with my own library too. It's just more diverse the more diverse the source material, such as provided by Tidal and not just material within my own library.

IMHO, the value of Roon far outweighs its cost. Roon lifetime cost me £390 and Tidal Masters costs me ~£16/month. I also bought about £400 of dedicated new hardware, but could have got away with non dedicated setup on what I already had. That gave me 6 zones, but I only use 4 or 5 of them in reality.

Tom, That seems like a very compelling list of features and I have the highest regard for both your and Russ's views, judgement and expertise. I know you are both in favour of Roon but my interest and concern is whether AssetUpnp, not yet much developed, is beginning to eclipse it at much lower cost.
Would you be able to use AssetUpnp with your existing Sooloos equipment? Roon also supports Squeezebox hardware.
Do you have any pictures of the interface that we can use to compare AssetUpnp and Roon?
No - I only stumbled across AssetUpnp because SpinalTap mentioned it and when I had a quick look at the Illustrate site it seemed to offer many features like Sooloos (which I use) and Roon (of which I am very ignorant but note that many people whose views I respect do use).
Because I have never paid anything like as much as Roon’s price for a piece of software of any kind I have so far been highly resistant to trying Roon but thought I should ask the forum whether new things such as AssetUpnp are providing similar functionality at a much better price.
I would not want to pay $500 for functionality I could get, at least mostly, for a fraction of Roon’s price and find within a short time I had blundered as I did with TiVo and to some extent Sooloos. I thought Tivo was brilliant and Sooloos does all I want (well, with some updating) and both are now unsupported (forget Virgin’s Tivo - I can’t get cable even if I wanted it).
My question has led to stout (even defensive) support for Roon but little insight into AssetUpnp. I would like to thank all for the trouble taken over responses but it looks like I will have to research AssetUpnp myself and see how it compares with Sooloos, which is what I would like to find a successor for.
In this context, I am delighted with the work done by Koputai which shows that modest fiddling about can give my C10s life after Sooloos (especially if I overcome my lifetime reluctance to pay through the nose for software and buy Roon).
Have a look at Squeezelite (on the streamer) LMS (on the NAS/Pi) and iPeng controller. IPeng is really very impressive in terms of feature list. LMS is also exceedingly able (upsampling etc.).
IPeng cost £9. The rest is free and may get you 97% of what you’re after.
Also RPi plus Allo Digione Sig plus good power supply would possibly more than hold its own with 818v3. SPDIF output so plug and play. A little fiddling required setting up.
Roon is fab and great for manufacturers, do I need synced endpoints, not really. Very convenient if you don’t fancy a little fiddle. SQ? I though SQ improved when I went RAAT, I’m now just double checking before cancelling Roon. More features than I need.
