My (UK) PP has no knowledge on when the 210 will be officially released.

1st August, and no 210: ‘the clock is ticking’ (30 days).

I wonder if the abysmal exchange rate is impacting on the 210 release date: as, presumably, the American CI marketplace is critical for Meridian.

Surely our abysmal exchange rate favours American purchasers?

... but not Meridian’s coffers.

Meanwhile, I wonder how much the lifestyle offerings from Salisbury and Glasgow are eating their lunch.

I know I'm starting to get a wandering eye (major birthday coming up, time for a mid-life crisis purchase...)

I auditioned Naim prior to buying my M6’s and 218. I wasn’t impressed.

The last time I heard a complete system was a six-pack driving a pair of DBLs at the Bristol show many years ago.

I still get flashbacks and wince to this day.

However,

When you have a set up which is more and more analogue (coz time is precious and I enjoy the tactile aspects of music enjoyment), the gaping maw between the sub £1000 218 and "How Much?!!!:" front end of 818.3 is becoming embarrassing....

New Meridian is becoming the play-thing of Oligarchs.

Well the problem there is they have the ‘new’ 200 series for install, but nothing for living room use for most hi-fi enthusiasts. So in both senses its the highest end of the market - those who can afford either 800 series or even more for a full installation.

Even this is an OK approach, there are plenty of companies who only produce high end gear with eye-watering prices, but what they do do is at least give the appearance of continually being on the citing edge and refreshing their product line regularly, etc. They also keep submitting products for review and keep themselves in the hi-fi press, all things Meridian used to do.

I think what I mean is, at the high end, you can only rest on your past glory for so long.

I completely understand if, e.g., the 210 got mired in licensing delays beyond Meridian’s control, but where are all the other refreshes/ releases in the meantime? Why not put that time to good use and, for example, design an MQA card for the 861 and upgrade it to v9? Or have Alan Boothroyd design a modern 200/500 series case so they have a consumer (non-install) version of the 218, etc, with built in LPS like the old 500 series? How about a true 2-way stand mount DSP to replace the 3200, with the option of .2 or SE electronics to partner a DSW for those living in ever smaller London/NYC broom cupboard rented space? What about regaining the mantle they used to hold for DSP speakers/RC and integrating MRC into the DSPs or at least into the 818, if they’re not upgrading the 861? Honestly the list is endless with possibilities.
